It is hereby notified that in future the 24th May will be observed as a holiday in the Government offices in the colony, and that the said day will be known as “Empire Day.”

Notice respecting Proposed Borough of Eastbrook, County of Wanganui.

PURSUANT to section 175 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a petition has been presented to him praying for the constitution of the area described in the Schedule hereo as a borough under the said Act, to be named the Borough of Eastbrook. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to, or petitions against, the constitution of the said borough which they may desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF PROPOSED BOROUGH OF EASTBROOK.
All that area in the Wellington Land District, situated in Blocks I, II, V, and VI, Ikitara Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east by a line along the middle of the Kaimitira Road from the east bank of the Wanganui River to its junction with Gordon Park Road; thence by a line along the middle of Gordon Park Road to its junction with No. 3 Line Road; thence towards the north by a line along the middle of No. 3 Line Road to a point in line with the western boundary of Section No. 73, Block II; thence towards the east generally by a right line to the north-western corner of the said Section No. 73; thence by that section and by Sections Nos. 75, 74, and 53, Block VI, to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 52; thence towards the south generally by Sections Nos. 52, 51, 50, 49, 48, Block VI, and Sections Nos. 47, 46, and 45, Block V, to the Purua Stream; thence by the Purua Stream to the Wanganui River; and thence towards the west and north-west by the east bank of the Wanganui River to the place of commencement.

THE following special orders, made by the Manawatu County Council, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Orders.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and by virtue of a Warrant issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor, in terms of section 118 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” dated the 14th day of December, 1906, the Manawatu County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £2,000 sterling, authorised to be raised by the Manawatu County Council, under the above-mentioned Acts, for the purpose of providing the Manawatu County Council’s share of the cost of constructing a bridge (including approaches and protective works) over the Manawatu River near Shannon, known as the Shannon Bridge, the site of the said bridge, approaches, and protective works being more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 2749, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon shown in red colour, such loan to be at 4 per centum per annum for a period of forty-one years, the said Manawatu County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/60d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property within the boundaries of the Manawatu County; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the first day of July in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Manawatu County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £500 sterling, authorised to be raised by the Manawatu County Council, under the above-mentioned Act, for the purpose of constructing the Koputaru Road, such loan to be at 4 per centum per annum for a period of forty-one years, the said Manawatu County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 7/25d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Koputaru Road Special-rating District, comprising the following—Sections 18, 18A, 19, 19A, 20, 22, and 23 of the Oroua Downs Estate, Block XIII, Te Kawau Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of July in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special orders were duly made and passed at a special meeting of the Manawatu County Council held on the 13th day of March, 1907, and were duly confirmed at a subsequent meeting of the Council held on the 10th day of April, 1907.
