A rk., named Bird, dries 4 ft. 1⅖ miles N. 38° E. from Lima Islet, marked by a red spar buoy moored about 30 ft. srd. of the rk. A black lt.-buoy, exh. a quick-occ. white lt., is to replace the black spar buoy marking the E. end of Barrett Ledge, and a red lt.-buoy, exh. a quick-occ. lt., is to replace the red spar buoy close off Bird Rk. Feb.

UNCHARTED ROCKS IN HAURAKI GULF OFF KAWAU ISLAND AND LITTLE BARRIER ISLAND.

CAPTAIN BOLLONS, of the Government steamer “Hinemoa,” reports the existence of the undermentioned uncharted rocks in the Hauraki Gulf:—

  1. A sunken rock, with 10 ft. of water over it at L.W.O.S., lies 2 cables S. 37° W. of Flat Rock, off Kawau Island.

  2. A rock, which dries 3 ft. at L.W.S., lies 1·8 cables off shore on the eastern side of Little Barrier Island, the S.E. point of the island bearing south, and Pohutukawa Flat N. 15° W., 1⅓ miles distant.

Notice to Mariners No. 30 of 1907.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received by cable from the Marine Department, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information:—

“The sunken vessels in the semaphore anchorage are marked by a launch carrying Board of Trade wreck-signals. Wonga Shoal light is one mile and three-quarters east half north. The Jetty light is east by south approximately.”

Varied Notice (No. 2) fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Borough of Eltham.


WHEREAS by notice dated the 13th day of February, 1906, and gazetted on the 15th day of February, 1906, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon him by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified as required by those sections, did direct that from and after the 26th day of February, 1906, all shops in the Borough of Eltham, except in certain trades specified in the Gazette notice, should be closed upon all working-days, except Saturday and Thursday, at 5.30 o’clock p.m. from the 1st May to 30th September, and at 6 o’clock p.m. from 1st October to 30th April; on Saturdays at 9 o’clock p.m. from the 1st May to 30th September, and at 9.30 p.m. from 1st October to 30th April; and on Thursdays at 1 o’clock p.m.; except on the night of the day preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, or when Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Monday, then till 11 o’clock at night on the Saturday preceding those days: And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the said notice by fixing the hours for closing for pork-butchers and small-goods men as follows: On Thursdays (the statutory half-holiday), at 1 p.m.; on Saturdays, at 11 p.m.; and on all other working-days, at 10.30 p.m.:

Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” I do hereby vary the said notice by directing that on and after the 1st day of May, 1907, all pork-butchers’ and small-goods’ shops in the Borough of Eltham shall be closed in accordance with the latter requisition.

Varied Notice (No. 2) fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Inangahua County.


WHEREAS by notice dated the 18th day of December, 1906, and gazetted on the 20th day of December, 1906, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon him by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified by those sections, did direct that from and after the 1st day of January, 1907, all shops in the Inangahua County should be closed at 6 p.m. on four days in the week—viz., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; the hours for booksellers and stationers to be 8 p.m. on those days; that all shops should be closed at 10 p.m. on Saturdays, except one Saturday in each month (locally known as pay-Saturday), when the closing-hour should be 11 p.m., and at 1 o’clock on Wednesdays, the weekly half-holiday (Christmas and New Year’s Eves to be excepted, when the hour should be 11 p.m., or when Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Monday the closing-hour on the preceding Saturday should be 11 p.m.): And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the said notice by fixing the closing-hour of all shops, excepting fruiterers, confectioners, and restaurant-keepers, at half past eight o’clock p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of each week, 1 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, and half past ten o’clock p.m. on Saturday of each week, with the following exception—viz., on the Saturday in each month locally known as pay-Saturday, when the closing-hour to be 11 o’clock; and that the closing-hour on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve be 11 o’clock, except when such days fall on Monday, then the hour of closing on the Saturday previous shall be 11 o’clock:

Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” I do hereby vary the said notice by directing that on and after the 1st day of May, 1907, all shops in the Inangahua County, excepting fruiterers’, confectioners’, and restaurant-keepers’, shall be closed in accordance with such latter requisition.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Hairdressers’ and Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth under the Shops and Offices Act.


WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed as follows: On Monday 8 p.m., Tuesday 6 p.m., Wednesday 8 p.m., Thursday 1 p.m., Friday 6 p.m., and on Saturday 12 p.m., with the following exceptions: Race nights, when races are held in New Plymouth, 8 p.m.; and the week prior to and the two weeks following Christmas, when shops may be kept open till the hour of 12 p.m.: And whereas the New Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the trades mentioned in the borough:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of May, 1907, all the shops mentioned in the Borough of New Plymouth shall be closed in accordance with such requisition. The weekly half-holiday is on Thursday from 1 p.m.
