AFRICA.

PORT NATAL APPROACH.—The following beacons are est.
in the approach to Durban on the sites of the prev. lt.-hs.
which were used as clearing-marks for the Aliwal Shoal :
(a.) Umpambinyoni beacon, a mast 69 ft. high surm. by a
disc, the upper half red and the lower half white, elev.
159 ft. above H.W., 2⁴⁄₁₀ miles S. 55° W. from Green Pt.
beacon (30° 15⁴⁄₁₀' S., 30° 47' E.). (b.) Amahlongwana beacon,
a mast 69 ft. high surm. by a white triangle, elev. 170 ft.
above H.W., 1⁸⁄₁₀ miles N. 48° E. from Green Pt. beacon.

East Coast.

CAPE ST. LUCIA.—On 15th Dec., 1906, a F. white lt., vis.
from N. 52° E., through N. and W., to S. 52° W. and obsc.
in other directions, elev. 383 ft. above H.W., R. 15 miles,
was to be exh. from a lt.-h., black and white hor., 25 ft.
high, in 28° 31' S., 32° 24' E., about 1½ miles nrd. of the
cape. Jan.

DELGOA BAY.—The deepest water across the bar of
English River, Lorenzo Marques approach, now named
Polana Chan., is buoyed as follows: The outer end is
marked by a spher. buoy, surm. by a pyra. frame and ball,
black and white hor., 3⁴⁄₁₀ miles N. 86° E. from Reuben Pt.
Lt.-h. (25° 58³⁄₄' S., 32° 36' E.). Between this buoy (which
can be passed on either side) and the lt.-buoy off Reuben
Pt., Polana Chan. is marked by 4 buoys placed at about
equal dists. apart, those on the N. side of the chan. being
conical, red, surm. by a triangle, and those on the srn. side,
cyl., black, surm. by a rectangle. There is in this chan.
about 2 ft. more water over the bar than in other places.
Feb.

From 1st. Jan., 1907, the following port regulations were
to come into force at Lorenzo Marques (25° 58' S., 32° 35' E.) :
(a.) The Health Officer will visit mail or passenger steam-
vessels at any hour of the day or night, and other ships up
to 10 p.m. (b.) Vessels desiring pratique must hoist a
green lt. when passing Cape Inyack by night, and also before
arriving opposite Reuben Pt. Lt.-h. (c.) Vessels are
allowed to make fast alongside the wharf until 11 p.m.
Agents who desire that vessels may come alongside after
that hour must give notice to the Secretary of the Port
Commission before 7 p.m. Feb.

GULF OF SUEZ.—On 1st Feb., 1907, the colour of Newport
Rk. lt., rev. (29° 53' N., 32° 33' E.), is to be altered from
white to red. Feb.

INDIAN OCEAN.

CHEDUBA STRAIT.—On 15th Dec., 1906, a volcanic eruption
in the form of a isl. about 300 yds. in diam. and 15 ft. high
above H.W. had appeared in approx. 19° 0½' N., 93° 24¼' E.,
in the nrn. approach to the strait. Feb.

CHINA SEA.

CANTON RIVER.—A F. red lt., elev. 33 ft. above H.W., R.
10 miles, is exh. from a red brick lt.-h. surm. by a pedestal
lantern, 36 ft. high, in 22° 47½' N., 113° 37¼' E., on Chain
Rk., Bocca Tigris. Feb.*

S. CHAN.—About 1st Feb., 1907, the following alterations
are to be made in the lts. and buoys in the entr. to the river:
(a.) A red lt.-buoy is to be est. in 30 ft. at L.W. springs, 11
cables S. 41° W. from quarantine beacon (31° 26½' N., 121°
31¾' E.). (b.) A red conical buoy is to be est. in 30 ft. at
L.W. springs, 1¾ miles S. 16° E. from quarantine beacon.
The above buoys (a and b) mark both the limit of the
quarantine anchorage and also the nrn. side of the chan.
(c.) The 2 white buoys at present 9½ cables S. 56° W. and 17
cables S. 1° E. respectively from quarantine beacon are to
be withdrawn. Feb.

In consequence of the changes which have taken place in
the S. chan., the following lt.-vs. were to be moved :
(a.) Tungsha lt.-v. moved 6 cables S. 42° W. to approx.
31° 8¼' N., 121° 59¼' E., to mark the N. side of the chan.
(b.) Kiu toan lt.-v. moved 4½ cables N. 44° E. to approx.
31° 13¾' N., 121° 48¼' E., to mark the N. (not S.) side of the
chan. Note: Vessels entering the Yang tse Kiang by the
S. chan. should pass srd. of both these lt.-vs. Jan.

AUSTRALIA.

INNER ROUTE TO TORRES STRAIT.—TRINITY BAY.—The
undermentioned reefs in the bay are in the following posi-
tions, and not in those shown on the charts : (1.) Alexandra
Reef, about 1 mile in extent N.-wly. and S.-ely., and ½ mile
broad, dry at L.W., with 5 to 7 fms. around, 3¾ miles N. 4° W.
from Yule Pt. (16° 34½' S., 145° 31¼' E.), or about ¾ mile
N.-wrd. of its prev. accepted position. (2.) Wentworth Reef,
awash at L.W., 3⁸⁄₁₀ miles N. 11° E. from Yule Pt., or about
½ mile S.-wrd. of its prev. accepted position ; it is detached
from Alexandra Reef, there being a depth of 7 fms. between
them. (3.) Egmont Reef is 2½ miles N. 38° E. from Yule Pt.,
or about ¾ mile S.-wrd. from its prev. accepted position.
(4.) Egmont 5-fm. patch, shown on the chart 5 miles N. 33° E.
from Yule Pt., does not exist. (5.) The buoy (black can)
marking Alexandra Reef is 4³⁄₁₀ miles N. 19° E. from Yule Pt.,
or about ¾ mile N.-erd. of its reported position. Feb.

PACIFIC OCEAN.

New Guinea.

ARU ISLS.—DOBBO HARB. APPROACH.—A reef, sand and
stones, carrying 4 fms., exists in approx. 5° 31½' S.,
134° 17¼' E., in Wasir Strait, with the S. pt. of Wasir
S. 64° W., 2¼ miles, and the N.-ern. pt. of the same isl.
N. 26° W. Discoloured water extends S.-wly. from the
shoals, and the soundings in the srn. part of the strait are
irregular. Vessels are therefore recommended to avoid
passing between Ujir and Wasir Isls. Feb.

Solomon Islands.

GOWER ISL.—The position of this isl. is reported to be
2' 35" to the srd. and 6' 10" to the erd. of the position at
present shown on the chart. As this isl. has not yet been
properly fixed or exam., it has been moved on the chart, in
its present shape, to the S.-erd., to a position which places
the N. pt. of the isl. in 7° 49' S., 160° 36' E. Feb.

EFATE ISL.—FILA HARB.—The leading-lights into the harb.
have been altered as follows : (a.) The front lt. is F. red,
elev. 132 ft. above H.W., R. 6 miles, in 17° 44½' S., 168° 19' E.,
2³⁄₁₀ cables S. 62° W. from the conspicuous tree on the sum-
mit of the hill, 386 ft. high. (b.) The rear lt. is F. white,
elev. 295 ft. above H.W., R. 9 miles, 2⁴⁄₅ cables N. 68° E. from
the front lt. The lts. in line N. 68° E. lead through the
harb. entr. Feb.

NORTH AMERICA.

West Coast.

A black lt.-buoy, exh. a quick-occ. white lt., is to replace
the spar buoy, red and black hor., marking Kestrel Rk.
Feb.

F. white leading-lts. (U) are to be exh. from red beacons,
cyl. tanks on frames, surm. by pyra. frames supporting the
lanterns, 23 ft. high : The front lt., elev. 65 ft., R. 13 miles,
in 54° 13' N., 130° 20¼' W., on Coast Isl. summit ; and rear lt.,
elev. 102 ft., R. 15 miles, on Ridley Isl., in front of the
triangular white day-beacon, 4,415 ft. N. 75° E. from the
front lt. The old beacons will remain as day-marks. Feb.

The following dangers exist in the sound : (1.) A rk.,
named Ellinor, carrying 1 ft. at L.W. springs, and steep-to,
