freely round an axis of inertia which is situated in any position
relatively to the axis of the carrier, whilst its oscillation has
also the result of raising its centre of gravity so that it will
have a constant tendency to return to its normal or equilibrium position. (2.) A constructional form of the centrifugal drum specified in claim 1, characterized by the fact that the carrier consists of a shaft or rod having forked ends which engage cross-pins or trunnions on the driving-shaft and on the pivot or the bottom of the drum.
(Specification, 3s. 9d. ; drawing, 1s.)
No. 22552.—13th March, 1907.—IVAR PETER BAGGER KNUDSEN, of Svanemollevej 56, Copenhagen, Denmark, Director. Improvements in centrifugal separators.
Claims.—(1.) In separator-drums of the kind which are suspended on the top of a vertical shaft in such a manner that it is capable of moving freely in relation to this, the arrangement consisting in the separator-drum revolving round a movable guide-pivot in a ball-guide in a fixed bearing, the guide-pivot at a place outside the ball-guide being enclosed by a device capable of receiving the actuations transmitted from the drum to the guide-pivot without producing reactionary effects. (2.) A form of execution of the arrangement mentioned in claim 1, characterized by the device mentioned in claim 1, consisting of a ring of leather, ebonite, or the like fastened round the guide-pivot, said ring being pressed between two surfaces, thereby being capable of receiving the actuations transmitted without producing reactionary effects. (3.) A form of execution of the arrangement mentioned in claim 1, characterized by the guide-pivot being placed between fixed and tightened cords receiving the actuations transmitted.
(Specification, 3s. ; drawing, 2s.)
No. 22553.—13th March, 1907.—IVAR PETER BAGGER KNUDSEN, of Svanemollevej 56, Copenhagen, Denmark, Director. An improved bearing for rapidly rotating bodies.
Claim.—In a bearing for a rapidly rotating body, the combination with the shaft which supports said body, of a disc encircling the shaft and displaceable therewith in a direction transversely of the axis of the bearing, a spring tending to maintain the disc and shaft in axial alignment with the bearing, and a pair of surfaces between which the disc is clamped in such manner as to cause frictional resistance to be offered to movements of the disc and shaft transversely of the axis of the bearing, substantially as described.
(Specification, 2s. 3d. ; drawing, 1s.)
No. 22650.—2nd February, 1907.—GEORGE JOHN BROWNE, of Kairanga Road, Palmerston North, New Zealand, Mechanical Engineer, and EDWIN TOMS, of Fitzherbert Street, Palmerston North aforesaid, Commercial Traveller. Improved machine for making sheet-metal seamed and grooved piping.
Claims.—(1.) The improved machine for making sheet-metal seamed and grooved piping comprising, in combination, a hopper, revolving mould with groove, which receives the edge of sheet metal and by the revolution makes the top lap, a sliding or thrust bar making bottom lap by forcing edge into mould-recess, thereby preparing pipe ready for seaming, substantially as described. (2.) The improved machine for making sheet-metal seamed and grooved piping comprising, in combination, a carriage to male and female seamers which press laps into seams, and locked by grooving-wheel, substantially as described. (3.) The improved machine for making sheet-metal seamed and grooved piping comprising, in combination, an opening and closing grip for drawing pipe through seamers, substantially as described.
(Specification, 2s. ; drawing, 4s.)
