HOBART MARINE BOARD.
Notice to Mariners.—Denison Canal—East Bay and Blackman’s Bay.
Notice is hereby given that the approach to the canal from Dunalley Bay is marked with two three-pile beacons. East Bay and Blackman’s Bay Channels are marked with eight single-pile beacons and twelve buoys. The sea entrance is marked with two diamond-headed beacons placed on the points, one beacon being painted black and the other white. All beacons and buoys painted white are to be left on the starboard side, and all beacons and buoys painted black are to be left on the port side, starting from seaward. There are also two diamond-headed beacons painted white on the right bank of the canal, which mark the centre of the cutting when approaching from East Bay.

THE following by-law, made by the Marine Board of South Australia, with the consent and approval of His Excellency the Governor in Council, is published for general information.

At a meeting of the Marine Board of South Australia, held at the Marine Board Offices, Port Adelaide, on the twenty-ninth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and six—present: Arthur Searcy, Esq., J.P. President; W. Berry, Esq., Captain J. H. Gibbon, Angus Campbell, Esq., J.P., R. Fricker, Esq., Captain F. W. Vasey, A. S. Neill, Esq., J.P., Wardens—the Marine Board of South Australia, by virtue of the provisions of “The Marine Board and Navigation Act, 1881,” and all other enabling powers, doth hereby make the following regulation relating to explosives:—
EXPLOSIVES.
- Whereas by “The Marine Board and Navigation Act, 1881,” section 364, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Board from time to time, with the consent of the Governor, to define, for the purposes of this Act, the composition, quality, and character of any explosive, and to classify explosives; and where the composition, quality, or character of any explosive has been defined as aforesaid, any article alleged to be such explosive which differs from such definition in composition, quality, or character, whether by reason of deterioration or otherwise, shall not be deemed, for the purposes of this Act, to be the explosive so defined: The Marine Board, pursuant to the powers conferred thereby, do hereby define and classify the undermentioned explosive, which is also added to the authorised “List of Explosives” in force for the time being :—
EXPLOSIVES.
Class III.—Nitro-compound.—Division I.

Monobel Powder.—Consisting of neutral nitrate of ammonium, thoroughly purified nitro-glycerine and woodmeal (for bleaching or purifying, of which no chemical agents have been used, or, if used, have been absolutely removed), provided that the proportion of nitro-glycerine does not exceed 11 per cent. by weight of the finished explosive. The whole to be sufficiently absorbent in quality to prevent exudation of nitro-glycerine. Provided that the explosive is contained in thoroughly waterproof cartridge wrappers or cases.

This regulation shall take effect on the 1st day of February, 1907.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Hairdressers and Tobacconists Shops in the Borough of Gore under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers and tobacconists shops in the Borough of Gore, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed at 1 p.m. on the statutory half-holiday, at 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and at 8 p.m. on all other working-days of each week: And whereas the Gore Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers and tobacconists shops in the borough:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 21st day of January, 1907, all the hairdressers and tobacconists shops in the Borough of Gore shall be closed accordingly, at 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, the weekly half-holiday.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Nikau Street and Howard Street, in Subdivision No. 2, Lowry Bay Township, Wellington Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of “The Land Act, 1892.”
