HIS Excellency the Governor has, in pursuance of the powers vested in him by “The Waimumu Stream Drainage Act, 1906,” been pleased to appoint Friday, the eighth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and seven, as the date of holding the first election of Trustees for the Board, and the office of Robert Winning, Esq., in Short Street, Mataura, as the place for holding such first election.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.—VICTORIA.

THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received from the Geelong Harbour Trust Commissioners, is published for general information.

PORT OF GEELONG.

On or about 1st March, 1907, the following buoys will be removed, and replaced by single-pile beacons 12ft. above sea-level:—

East Bellarine (black can).
Point Wilson or steamboat buoy (red conical).
Arthur the Great (red conical).

The beacon replacing the East Bellarine buoy will be surmounted by a staff and cage, and that of the Point Wilson or steamboat buoy by a staff and globe.
Simultaneously the West Bellarine buoy (black can) will be removed, and will not be replaced.

GULF OF ST. VINCENT.—LIGHT’S PASSAGE HARBOUR WORKS.

Masters of vessels, pilots, and others are informed that on or about the 20th instant the signals to be used by Government dredgers, as required by the Marine Board Regulations, will be shown 12 ft. higher than has been the practice in the past.

This affects Admiralty Charts 2389A and 2389B, 1750, and 1752.

SPENCER GULF.—SECRET ROCK.

Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 24 of 1905, masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that the black buoy mentioned therein as marking the position of the Secret Rock has broken adrift, and is reported as being now about two miles northward of its proper position and close inshore. It will be replaced as early as possible, when a further notice will be issued.

This affects Admiralty Chart 2389B.

HOBART MARINE BOARD.

By-law No. 23.—Regulations for the Denison Canal.

  1. The Denison Canal, between Norfolk Bay and Blackman’s Bay (hereinafter called “the canal”), shall be under the charge of an officer appointed by the Board, and hereinafter called “the Superintendent,” and the master or person in charge of every vessel using or about to use the canal shall comply with all directions given by the Superintendent.

  2. The master or person in charge of any vessel about to enter the canal from Norfolk Bay shall not permit his vessel to enter the canal at any time when the arm of the semaphore at the western entrance thereof is raised, and the master or person in charge of any vessel about to enter the canal from Blackman’s Bay shall not permit his vessel to enter the canal at any time when the arm of the semaphore at the eastern entrance thereof is raised.

  3. The master or person in charge of any vessel shall not permit his vessel to remain in the canal, or in or about the approaches thereof (except for the purpose of passing through the same) unless authorised to do so by the Superintendent, and shall remove his vessel forthwith from the canal and the approaches thereof when so directed by the Superintendent.

  4. The master or person in charge of every vessel passing through the canal or the approaches thereof shall navigate such vessel with all possible care, and so as not to damage the banks of the canal.

  5. The bridge across the canal will only be opened to allow the passage of vessels between sunrise and sunset from the 1st day of April to the 30th day of September inclusive, and between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. from the 1st day of October to the 31st day of March inclusive.

  6. The fees and charges set forth in the Schedule hereto shall be paid to the Superintendent forthwith upon any vessel entering the canal by the master or person in charge thereof, and no vessel shall be taken through the canal by the master or person in charge thereof until all fees and charges owing or payable in respect of the use by such vessel of the canal, or of the wharf at the western entrance thereof, have been paid.

  7. The master or person in charge of every vessel which shall embark or disembark passengers at, or shall use, the said wharf, and shall not land or load cargo there liable to pay wharfage rates, and shall not be liable to pay the fee for the use of the canal, shall pay to the Superintendent the same charges as are by Part I of By-law No. 1 made payable by river steamers and river barges.

  8. No fee for the use of the canal shall be payable in respect of any vessel which has used the said wharf and which passes through the canal for the sole purpose of turning such vessel and returning at once through the same.
