Government has given notice that Mr. G. Blanchard Dodge,
hydrographic surveyor, reports the following uncharted
rocks in the entrance to Prince Rupert Harbour, British
Columbia, the prospective terminus of the Grand Trunk
Pacific Railway:-
Falcon Rock.-A rock, having a least depth of 29 ft. over
it at low water, spring tides, lies 1,550 yards S. 36° 20' E. true
(S.E. by E. TE mag.) from the islet off Lima Point.
Approx. position : Lat. 54° 13' 40" N., long. 130° 21' 35" W.
JENNER Rock.-A rock, having a least depth of 26 ft. over
it at low water, spring tides, lies 2,000 yards S. 39° 50' E. true
(E.S.E. e'ly mag.) from the islet off Lima Point.
Approx. position : Lat. 54° 13' 30" N., long. 130° 21" 05" W.
It is to be noted that the islet off Lima Point is farther
westward than shown on the chart.
MARION Rock.-A rock, awash at high-water springs, lies
500 yards N. 61° 40' W. true (west mag.) from the middle of
the north-western side of the West Kinnahan Island. The
following sextant angles were taken from the rock: Kinna-
han Islands, north tangent, 0° 00'; Kinnahan Islands, west
tangent, 76° 25'; Rachael Islands, south-east tangent, 98° 45'.
GRACE Rock.-A rock, with a least depth of 4 ft. over it, is
located between Holland Island and Greentop Rock, 700 yards
N. 72° 20' W. true (W. by S. mag.) from the westernmost
part of Holland Island. The following sextant angles were
taken from the rock: Kinnahan Island, south-east tangent.
0° 00'; Holland Island, summit, 122° 45'; Lawyer I-land
light, 56° 45'; Greentop Rock, 111° 35'. This is evidently
wrongly charted as a rock with 9 ft. of water over it.
Dorothy Rock.-A rock, with 4 ft. least water over it,
between Holland Island and Greentop Rock, is located on
the following bearings: Holland Island, nearest part, S. 72°
20' E. true (E. by N. mag.), distant 1,250 yards; Greentop
Rock, nearest part, N. 86° 20' W. true (S.W. by W. & W.
mag.), distant 1 mile. This is evidently wrongly charted as
a rock with 9 ft. of water over it.
Another rock with a least depth of 9 ft. over it is located
500 yards N. 38° 50' W. true (W.N.W. mag.) from the top
of Greentop Rock.
To lead southward of Falcon and Jenner Rocks two white
beacons have been erected, one on top of Coast Island and
the other on the mainland eastward of it. These two
beacons in line, bearing S. 76° 20' E. true (E.N.E. & E.
e'ly mag.) lead 700 yards southward of Kestrel Rock and
330 yards southward of Jenner Rock.

NEW HEBRIDES.-EFATE (SANDWICH) ISLAND.-MELI BAY.
—FILA (VILA) HARBOUR.—INTENDED CHANGE IN RANGE LIGHTS.
—The French Government has given notice that the range
lights leading into Fila (Vila) Harbour, Meli Bay, Efate
(Sandwich) Island, will in the near future be changed as
follows:-
The fixed red front light will be replaced by a more
powerful light established in the position occupied by the
present rear light. The fixed white rear light will be moved
back about 437 yards to a point near the top of the hill.

VANCOUVER ISLAND.-CLAYOQUOT SOUND.-TEMPLAR CHAN-
NEL.-LENNARD ISLAND.—INTENDED CHANGE IN FOG-ALARM.--
Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 14 (520) of 1906, the
Canadian Government has given further notice that on Ist
January, 1907, the fog-alarm on Lennard Island, Clayoquot
Sound, will be changed to give 1 blast of 4 seconds' duration
every 45 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 49° 06' 40" N., long. 125° 55' 45" W.

QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND. — NEW CHANNEL.—CHRISTIE
PASSAGE.—BALAKLAVA ISLAND.—SCARLETT POINT.—HAND FOG-
HORN ESTABLISHED.-The Canadian Government has given
notice that a hand fog-horn has been established at Scarlett
Point Light-station, Balaklava Island, north-western point of
the entrance to Christie Passage, British Columbia. The
horn will be used to answer signals from vessels in the
vicinity of the station in thick or foggy weather.
Approx. position: Lat. 50° 51' 50" N., long. 127° 37' 30" W.

CEYLON.

COLOMBO HARBOUR.-HYDROGRAPHIC INFORMATION.-LIGHTS
NOT BURNING.-Lieutenant-Commander T. J. Senn, U.S.
Navy, navigating officer of the U.S.S. “Ohio,” reports,
under date of 20th October, 1906, as follows, concerning the
Harbour of Colombo. Ceylon :-
The lights on the north-east breakwater are not burning,
and although the pilot said that the channel was open, it
was observed that only small vessels were using it.
The graving-dock has been completed, but a small
amount of dredging remains to be done at the entrance,
which will be finished during the present month. The dock
is 712 ft. long, 85 ft. wide, and has 30 ft. of water over the
sill. There are no repair-shops at present.
To the southward of the graving-dock the ground has
been reclaimed, and there are now eighteen small piers
erected here, with about 12ft. of water alongside, that are
used in loading coal-lighters.

OAHU. - Honolulu HARBOUR ENTRANCE BUOYS. - COR-
RECTED POSITION. - Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 14
(551) of 1906, further notice is given that the buoys mark-
ing the entrance to the channel into Honolu.u Harbour,
Hawaiian Islands, are now located as follows:-
Entrance buoy No. 1, a black first-class tall-type can, on
the following bearings:-
Honolulu Range front lighthouse, N. 28° 45' E. true
(N by E. & E. mag.), distant 4.250 ft.
Sewer Pumping-station chimney, N. 59° 45' E. true
(N.E. & E. mag.).
Quarantine Island Flagstaff, N. 12° W. true (N.N.W. mag.).
Entrance buoy No. 2, a red first-class tall-type nun, on
the following bearings:-
Honolulu Range front lighthouse, N. 23° E. true (N. by
E. & E. mag), distant 4,200 ft.
Sewer Pumping-station chimney, N. 55° E. true (N.E.

bell buoy, Island of Maui, Hawaiian Islands, will be discon-
tinued about 1st December, 1906.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.

VANCOUVER ISLAND. - VICTORIA HARBOUR. - LAUREL POINT.

  • LIGHT CHANGED IN POSITION.-Referring to Notice to
    Mariners No. 44 (1754) of 1905, the Canadian Government
    has given further notice that the harbour light established
    on the extremity of Laurel Point, Victoria Harbour, has
    been moved 80 ft. to the north-eastward, and is now shown
    suspended from an iron arm, 4 ft. in length, projecting from
    the northern corner of a square red brick chimney rising
    from the northern corner of a small brick house. The
    chimney is 57 ft. high from the base of the building, and the
    light is 40 ft. above high-water mark.
    The change was necessitated by the erection of buildings
    to the eastward of the pole-light, which obscured it in the
    inner harbour.
    In all other respects the light is unchanged.

    FORMATION.-Through the courtesy of the Honourable Secre-
    tary of State the following hydrographic information
    concerning Dixon Entrance and Edye Passage, British
    Columbia, has been received from Commander F. Lear-
    mouth, R.N., commanding H.M.S. ‘‘Egeria’’:-
    Edye Passage.-Depths of from 10 to 18 fathoms were
    obtained by H.M.S. ‘‘Egeria’’ when passing through Edye
    Passage, between Warrior Rocks and White Cliff, Stephens
    Island. A depth of 11 fathoms was obtained 14 miles
    S. 47° 11' W. true (S. by W. 8 W. mag.) from the centre of
    White Cliff. Close south-westward of this spot a large patch
