Consenting to closing Road in Wakanui Road District.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seventh day of December, 1907.

Present:

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD, K.C.M.G.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and thirty-three, (a), of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” it is enacted that a local authority shall not declare any county or district road to be stopped, and such road shall not be deemed to be stopped, until the consent thereto of the Governor by Order in Council gazetted is obtained:

And whereas the Wakanui Road Board has applied for such consent in respect to the road described in the Schedule hereto:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the above-in-part-recited Acts, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby consent to the Wakanui Road Board closing the road mentioned in the Schedule hereto.

Exempting Abel Smith Street, in the City of Wellington, from the Provisions of Section 117 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” subject to certain Conditions as to the Building-line.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seventh day of December, 1907.

PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by subsection one of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” it is, inter alia, provided that the said section shall not apply in any case where the local authority having control of a road or street by resolution declares that the provisions thereof shall not apply to any specified road or street, or any specified part thereof, and such resolution is approved by the Governor in Council:

And whereas by section three of “The Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1906,” it is provided that such approval may be either absolute or subject to such conditions as the Governor thinks fit to impose:

And whereas on the sixth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and seven, the Council of the City of Wellington, the local authority having control of the street known as Abel Smith Street, being the street described in the Schedule hereto, did by resolution declare that the provisions of the said section one hundred and seventeen should not apply to the said street:

And whereas it is deemed expedient that such resolution should be approved, subject to the condition hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred by the above-in-part-recited Acts, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the said resolution, subject to the condition that no building or part of a building shall at any time be erected on either side of the said street within a distance of thirty-three feet from the centre-line of the said street.

SCHEDULE.

That street known as Abel Smith Street, in the Wellington Land District and in the City of Wellington, situated between Taranaki Street and a point 2 chains 40 links, more or less, past St. John’s Street, being a distance of 38½ chains, more or less; as the said street is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 9171, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured pink.

Reduced Rates of Postage for Inland Letters, Post-cards, and Magazines; Reduced Registration Fee.

PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council made on the thirtieth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seven, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and seven, regulations were made and rates of postage fixed, under the authority of “The Post Office Act, 1900” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), for the transmission of letters, books, packets, and newspapers through the post for places within or beyond New Zealand, and it is expedient to amend such regulations in the manner hereinafter set forth:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby, as from the respective dates hereinafter mentioned, revoke the rates of postage in respect of inland letters, post-cards, and registered magazines, and the registration fee fixed in the Schedule to the above-recited Order in Council, and in lieu thereof doth hereby fix the rates of postage and the registration fee set forth in the Schedule hereto; and doth order that such rates and fee shall take effect for post-cards on and from the eighteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and seven, and for other articles on and from the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

RATES OF POSTAGE.

Letters.

Inland .. .. { 1d. for the first 4 oz. or fraction thereof, and ½d. for each succeeding 2 oz. or fraction thereof.

Post-cards.

Inland .. .. Single, ½d.; reply, 1d.

All other places (Postal Union rates) } Single, 1d.; reply, 2d.

Magazines (Registered).

Inland .. .. { Each copy, not exceeding 16 oz., 1d.; every additional 16 oz. or fraction thereof, 1d.

Australia (except Queensland and Western Australia) { Each copy, not exceeding 2 oz., ½d.; if over 2 oz. to 8 oz., 1d.; every additional 4 oz. or fraction thereof, ½d.

Queensland, Western Australia, and all places not otherwise specified } ½d. for 2 oz. or fraction thereof.

REGISTRATION FEE.
