RAGLAN COUNTY.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan of £1,000, Karioi Special-rating District.

Under sections 12 and 13 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” I hereby notify that the following is the result of the poll of ratepayers taken over the Karioi Special-rating District on the 16th day of November, 1907, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £1,000 for the purpose of forming and metalling the road from Raglan to Maungatawhiri, and to levy a special rate of ⁵⁄₈d. in the pound within the Special-rating District of Karioi as security for such loan, which is for forty-one years at 4 per cent. :

Number of valid votes recorded: For the proposal, 61; against the proposal, 19; informal, 1.

The number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal being more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the authority in me for this purpose vested, I, the Minister of Customs, do by this order under my hand revoke and annul the appointment of the undermentioned warehouse for the reception and security of goods entered to be warehoused without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof, namely,—

Port of Napier.

The warehouse known as

NAPIER BOND,

as appointed and described in Minister’s Order No. 321, of the 27th day of February, 1889.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Minister of Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the undermentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under bond, namely,—

Port of Napier.

A brick building with concrete floors, situated in Ossian Street, on Sections 33 and 34, Port Ahuriri, to be known as

NAPIER BOND.

Regulations for Carriage of Live-stock on Deck.

Wellington, 23rd November, 1907.

WHEREAS it is enacted by section 223 of “The Shipping and Seamen Act, 1903,” that the Minister may from time to time make, alter, and revoke regulations as to the issue of licenses for the carriage of cargo and live-stock on the decks of vessels, and the appointment of persons to report to the Collectors on the amount of cargo and live-stock so to be carried:

And whereas regulations were made by the Minister on the 14th September, 1895, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 69, of the 19th day of the same month:

And whereas the said regulations were altered by regulations dated the 11th day of February, 1907, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 15, of the 14th day of the same month:

And whereas it is desirable to further alter the said regulations:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, the Minister of Marine, do hereby make the following regulation as to the issue of licenses for the carriage of live-stock on the decks of home-trade steamships, and do order that the said regulations of the 14th day of September, 1895, shall be further altered accordingly, but not further or otherwise; and, in pursuance of the power conferred by the said section of the Act quoted, I do prescribe a fee of £1 for a license to carry live-stock on deck in cases in which a Surveyor or other officer is employed by the Collector to inspect the steamship before the issue of a license.

REGULATION.

In the case of home-trade steamships, when it is desired to carry more live-stock on deck than provided by the regulations relating to the carriage of cargo and live-stock on deck, which were made by the hereinbefore-recited regulations of the 14th September, 1895, the owner or master shall make written application to a Collector of Customs for a license to do so, specifying the number and description of live-stock for which the license is required; and the Collector may, after inspection of the steamship by a Surveyor or other officer approved by him, grant a special annual license, or for such less period as he may deem advisable, for such number of live-stock as he is satisfied the steamship is able to carry with safety to the ship and the people on board. The license may be granted for the home-trade generally, or for such parts of the coast as are deemed safe by the inspecting officer.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Atkinson and Bryce Streets, in the Township of Kirktown South, Hawke’s Bay Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of “The Land Act, 1892.”

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902,” I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Stewart Road, Bute Place, Arran Place, Cumbrae Place, and Perham Place, in the Township of Aramoho Extension No. 1, Wellington Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Subsidies to Public Libraries.

Wellington, 6th November, 1907.

NOTICE is hereby given that the sum of £3,000 has been voted by Parliament for distribution to public libraries.

The distribution will take place on the 4th February, 1908, and no claim will be entitled to consideration that shall not have been sent in in due form and received by the Secretary for Education, Wellington, on or before the 27th January, 1908.

  1. A library to be entitled to a subsidy must be public in the sense of belonging to the public, and of not being under the control of an association, society, or club whose membership is composed of a section of the community only, and if within a borough it must be open to the public free of charge. The receipts for the year from subscriptions and donations must not have been less than £2, exclusive of moneys received from endowments, or from Government, or from Borough or County Councils, or for special building purposes, or as rent, hire, or consideration for the use of any room, or building, or land belonging to the institution, in respect of none of which will subsidy be allowed.
