“ That at its meeting held the fifth day of June, one
thousand nine hundred and six, the Bruce County Council
declared by resolution that the provisions of section one
hundred and seventeen of ‘The Public Works Act, 1905,’
should not apply to that portion of the district road form-
ing the south-east boundary of Section 7, Block I, Hillend
District, more particularly delineated on plan of subdivision
by Peter McSkimming of part of said section :”
And whereas it is deemed expedient that such resolution
should be approved:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of
the powers conferred by the above-in-part-recited Act, and
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, doth hereby approve the said
resolution.
SCHEDULE.
THAT road in the Otago Land District abutting on the
frontage of subdivision of part of Section 7, Block I,
Hillend District; as the same is more particularly de-
lineated on plan marked R. 7973, deposited in the office of
the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wel-
lington Land District, and coloured sienna, and lettered
AB thereon.

Inspection and Examination of Schools.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of September, 1906.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by “The Education Act, 1904,” the
Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the colony, doth hereby make the regulations
hereto annexed respecting the inspection and examination
of schools; and, with the like advice and consent, doth
prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the date
of the first publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
REGULATIONS.
The regulations made by Order in Council on the 20th day
of April, 1904, respecting the inspection and examination
of schools, are hereby amended as follows:—

In clause 27, by deleting the words “S1 to S7,” and
substituting in lieu thereof the words “P to S7.” -
In clauses 30 and 33, paragraph 2, by deleting the words
“Grades 1, 2, 3,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“Grades 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.”
In the same clauses, paragraph 3, by deleting the words
“Grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,” and inserting in lieu thereof the
words “Grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.”
In the same clauses, paragraph 4, by deleting the number
“9,” and inserting in lieu thereof the number “11.”
In the same clauses, paragraph 5, by deleting the words
“Grade 4,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words “Grade
5.”
In clause 33, paragraph 5, by deleting the words “Grades
4, 5, 6, 7, 8,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“Grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.”
- In clause 36, Standard V, Compulsory Subjects, (6), by
inserting, after the words “Geography : Course A,” the
words “(See clause 41).”
Further, by deleting the words “(See clause 41)” after
the word “continent.”
In the same clause, Standard VI, Compulsory Subjects,
(6), by adding the words “Course B (See clause 42).”
Further, by deleting the words “(See clause 41.) Course
B (Mathematical Geography, &c.)—(see clause 42)” after
the words “geographical zones,” and inserting in lieu there-
of the words “Mathematical Geography, &c.”
Further, by inserting, after the words “Geography:—
Course A,” the words “See clause 41.”

In clause 38, Standard VII, by deleting the words
“Grade 4,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“Grade 5.” -
In clause 39, Standard III; by inserting, after the word
“divisors,” the words “in money sums.”
In the same clause, Standard VII, (b), by deleting the
words “The meaning of,” and inserting in lieu thereof the
words “Making out.”
Further, by deleting the word “and” after the word
“balance-sheet,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“an easy cash account, a statement of receipts and expen-
diture, a personal account as in a retail trade; the meaning.”
Further, by deleting the words “also of a statement of
receipts and expenditure, and of a debit or credit balance,”
and inserting in lieu thereof the words “‘debit’ or ‘credit’
balance.”
Further, by deleting the words “Grade 4,” and inserting
in lieu thereof the words “Grade 5.”

In clause 53, paragraph 2, by deleting the words
“Grade 4,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“Grade 5.” -
In clause 54, paragraph 2, by deleting the words
“Grade 4,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words
“Grade 5”; and by deleting the words “Grades 4, 5, 6,
7, 8,” and inserting in lieu thereof the words “Grades 5, 6,
7, 8, 9, 10.”

Native Land in Orahiri Survey District taken for Scenic
Purposes.
PLUNKET, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this seventeenth
day of September, 1906.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto
is Native land and is required to be taken for scenic
purposes:
And whereas the said land is held or occupied by Native
owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown:
And whereas a map of the said land has been prepared in
duplicate, as required by the eighty-ninth section of “The
Public Works Act, 1905”:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers
vested in him by “The Public Works Act, 1905,” and “The
Scenery Preservation Act, 1903,” and of all other powers in
anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby proclaim and declare that the land
shown upon such map, and described in the Schedule hereto,
is hereby taken for scenic purposes as aforesaid; and the
said land shall vest in His Majesty the King as from the
twentieth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and
six.
