THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Road—that is, from the Eltham Road to the Hastings Road—the said Hawera County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property in that portion of the Mangatoki Riding of the Hawera County comprising the eastern half of Section 89, Block V, and the eastern halves of Sections 1 and V, Block IX, Subdivisions 1 and 2 of Section 2, and Section VI, Block IX, and the northern halves of Sections XII and XIII, Block IX, all in the Ngaiere Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 15th day of October in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off; and that the interest to be paid is at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum.

I hereby certify that the resolution initiating the above special order was adopted at a special meeting of the Council held on Saturday, the 16th September, 1905, and duly confirmed at a special meeting held on Saturday, the 21st October, 1905.

MOA ROAD BOARD.

RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Surrey Road Special-rating District, taken on Tuesday, 16th day of January, 1906, upon the following proposal:—

  1. To form and metal the Surrey Road from the Mountain Road westwards.
  2. To borrow for such purposes the sum of £1,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments, at 5 per centum per annum, for twenty-six years.
  3. To strike as security for such loan a special rate of 15/16d. in the pound.
  4. To constitute the Surrey Road Special-rating District to comprise the following lands, viz.: Sections 9, 10, 13, 209, 210, 212, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, Subsections 19, 20, 21, 22, of Section 183, Block XII, Egmont S.D.; 213, 214, Block XVI, Egmont S.D.; 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, part 225, Subsections part 15, 16, 17, 18 (in two subdivisions), of Section 183, Block IX, Huiroa S.D.
  5. All expenses in connection with raising this loan to be paid out of loan-money.

Total number of ratepayers on special roll, 23; total number of votes exercisable, 25; total number of valid votes recorded for proposal, 17; total number of valid votes recorded against proposal, 6.

I hereby declare proposal carried.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Retail Bootmakers’ Shops in the City of Auckland under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bootmakers’ shops in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed at 6 o’clock in the evening on four days of the week, 1 o’clock p.m. on the statutory half-holiday, and at 9.30 o’clock p.m. on the other day: And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures of such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bootmakers’ shops within the city:

Now, therefore, I, Albert Pitt, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of February, 1906, all retail bootmakers’ shops in the City of Auckland shall be closed accordingly at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, and at 9.30 p.m. on Saturdays.

Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed in the City of Dunedin.—Notice No. 1007.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Dunedin City Council has, by special order, declared elderberry to be a noxious weed within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” in the district under the Council’s jurisdiction.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of Road through the Waimate Block, No. 218, Maioro Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was duly taken and laid off, in September, 1905, through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated the 24th August, 1905.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Auckland Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 3 roods 21 perches, more or less, situated in the Maioro Survey District, and being a road-line 100 links wide traversing the Waimate Block, No. 218, the north-eastern boundary of which commences at a point on the south-eastern boundary of the aforesaid block at a distance of 1291 links, more or less, from its south-eastern angle, and proceeds north-westerly for a distance of 2878·3 links to the Waikato River; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 6369, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured pink.

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the authority in me for this purpose vested, I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do by this order under my hand revoke and annul the appointment of the undermentioned warehouse for the reception and security of goods entered to be warehoused without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof, namely,—

Tenders for Mail Steam Service to Chatham Islands.

General Post Office,
Wellington, 11th January, 1906.

TENDERS will be received at the Chief Post-office, Christchurch, until noon of Wednesday, the 22nd February, 1906, for the conveyance of mails once every month, and also once every two months, by steamer to and from the Chatham Islands, calling at such places, inclusive of Pitt Island, in the group as may be determined upon by the Postmaster-General, for two years from the 1st April, 1906, with Lyttelton or Wellington as the port of departure and Lyttelton the port of arrival.

Tenders to be indorsed “Tenders for Chatham Islands Mail-service,” and addressed to the Chief Postmaster, Christchurch.

Names, tonnage, and horse-power of steamers proposed to be used to be stated.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.
