Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road through Reserve
No. 2878, Block XI, Hakateramea Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” to
execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a
road through Conservation Reserve No. 2878, in Block XI,
Hakateramea Survey District, and for the purposes of such
public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is
required to be taken. And notice is further given that
the plan of the said road, and of the land so required to
be taken, is deposited in the Post-office at Hakateramea,
and is there open for inspection. And notice is also hereby
given that all persons affected by the execution of such
public work or the taking of such land shall, if they
have any well-grounded objection to the execution of
the said public work or to the taking of such land, set
forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within
forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the
Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the authority in me for this
purpose vested, I, the Commissioner of Trade and
Customs, do by this order under my hand revoke and
annul the appointment of the undermentioned warehouse
for the reception and security of goods entered to be ware-
housed without payment of duty upon the first entry
thereof, namely,—
Port of Auckland.
The warehouse known as
Grahame’s Bond,
as appointed and described in Commissioner’s Order No. 194,
of the 18th day of January, 1884.

Notice to Mariners No. 21 of 1906.

Wellington, N.Z., 14th March, 1906.

THE Auckland Harbour Board gives notice that, owing
to the reconstruction of the Railway Wharf, the two
red lights on the east end of the wharf have been removed
to a position 250 ft. to the westward and near the wharf
front. A bright light will be shown, from sunset to sunrise,
from the outer corners of the new wharf as the work is
proceeded with.

Notice to Mariners No. 22 of 1906.

Akaroa Light, South-east Extremity of Banks Peninsula.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th March, 1906.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 1906,
issued by this Department on the 28th February,
1906, notice is hereby given that the flashing light on Akaroa
Head will be discontinued from and including the night of
Tuesday, the 27th March, 1906, for a period of fourteen days,
during which a fixed white light will be shown. The flash-
ing light will be replaced and working from and including
the night of Tuesday, the 10th April, 1906.

Regulations for Adjustment of Compasses.

Marine Department,
Wellington, 14th March, 1906.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred upon me by section 201 of “The Shipping
and Seamen Act, 1903,” I, William Hall-Jones, Minister of
Marine, do hereby make the following regulations for licens-
ing properly qualified persons to be adjusters of compasses
of sea-going ships, prescribing the examinations to be passed
by applicants for such licenses, fixing the fees to be paid for
the adjustment of compasses; and do hereby also make the
following regulations for the adjustment of compasses of such
ships and the transmission of deviation tables; and I do
hereby revoke the regulations for the adjustment of compasses
which were made by Warrant dated the 5th July, 1897, and
published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 8th day of the
same month.

REGULATIONS.

  1. Licenses without Examination.—Subject in each instance
    to satisfactory evidence of good character, and to the pay-
    ment of a fee of £1, any person shall be entitled to receive
    a license as an adjuster, without examination, who—
    (1.) Holds a license as an adjuster from some Board or
    authority recognised by the Minister as satisfac-
    tory ; or
    (2.) Holds a certificate as extra master in the mercan-
    tile marine, or a commission not lower than
    lieutenant or navigating-lieutenant in the Royal
    navy ; or
    (3.) Gives satisfactory evidence that, being the holder
    of a certificate as master (other than extra master)
    or as mate in the mercantile marine, or of a com-
    mission lower than lieutenant or navigating-
    lieutenant in the Royal navy, he has passed the
    examination prescribed by the Board of Trade,
    or any other Board or authority aforesaid, in
    the syllabus of the laws of the deviation of the
    compass in iron ships, and in the means of com-
    pensating or correcting it.

  2. Licenses by Examination.—Any person who holds a
    certificate as master (other than extra master) or as mate in
    the mercantile marine, or who holds a commission lower
    than lieutenant or navigating-lieutenant in the Royal navy,
    shall be entitled to receive a license as an adjuster upon pass-
    ing the hereinafter-mentioned examination in the syllabus
    of the laws of the deviation of the compasses of iron ships.

  3. Examination, Fee, &c.—Any such person as last afore-
    said who wishes to pass an examination in the syllabus of
    examination in the laws of the deviation of the compasses of
    iron ships, and in the means of compensating or correcting
    it, can be examined upon filling up the usual form of appli-
    cation and paying to the Superintendent of the Mercantile
    Marine Office the fee of £1. The examination shall be con-
    ducted by the Examiners of Masters and Mates, and shall
    be held at such time as they appoint. If the candidate
    passes the examination successfully a note to that effect will
    be duly made upon the certificate held by him.
    No part of the above-mentioned fee will be returned.

  4. License, Fee, &c.—Every application for a license as
    an adjuster shall be made in writing to the Secretary of the
    Marine Department.
