Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.
THE following is the result of a poll of ratepayers of the Special District No. 3, taken this day, the 28th day of February, 1906, upon the proposal to raise a special loan of £200, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the construction of the Waitohu Valley Road Traffic-bridge:—
Number of voters on the roll, 292; number of votes for the proposal, 50; number of votes against the proposal, nil; informal votes, nil.
I hereby declare the proposal carried.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Retail Bicycle Dealers and Repairers’ Shops in the City of Auckland under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bicycle dealers and repairers’ shops in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed at 1 o’clock p.m. on the statutory half-holiday, at 9.30 o’clock p.m. on one day, which shall be Friday in the case of those observing Saturday as the half-holiday, and Saturday in the case of those observing Wednesday as the half-holiday, and at 6.30 o’clock in the evening on the other four days of the week: And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the retail bicycle dealers and repairers’ shops in the city:
Now, therefore, I, Richard John Seddon, the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 12th day of March, 1906, all retail bicycle dealers and repairers’ shops in the City of Auckland shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of certain Shops in the City of Nelson under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as boot-makers, -importers, and -salesmen in the City of Nelson, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 o’clock p.m., on Saturdays at 9 o’clock p.m., and on Wednesdays (the statutory half-holiday) at 1 o’clock p.m., New Year’s and Christmas Eves to be excepted: And whereas the City Council of Nelson has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the boot-makers, -importers, and -salesmen’s shops in the city:
Now, therefore, I, James Carroll, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 19th day of March, 1906, all boot-makers, -importers, and -salesmen’s shops in the City of Nelson shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Town District of Amberley.
WHEREAS by notice dated the 26th day of January, 1906, and gazetted on the 1st day of February, 1906, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon him by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified as required by these sections, did direct that from and after the 12th day of February, 1906, all shops in the Town District of Amberley should be closed at 6 o’clock p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, at 1 o’clock p.m. on Saturdays (the weekly half-holiday), and at 9 o’clock p.m. on Fridays: And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the said notice by exempting fishmongers from closing:
Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred by the above-mentioned section, I do hereby vary the said notice by directing that on and after the 12th day of March, 1906, the requisition shall accordingly not apply to fishmongers.

Notice of Intention to take Land in the Kaniere Survey District for Scenic Purposes.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1905,” and “The Scenery Preservation Act, 1903,” to take for scenic purposes the land described in the Schedule hereto. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office at Hokitika, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking thereof, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.
