About 40 acres flat land, balance undulating, covered with fern and manuka, with small patch of bush at back; mostly light soil, mixed with pumice; well watered. Situated twenty-four miles from Napier on the main coach-road to Taupo. Access to the section is by road leading south-westerly from the said main road for 9 chains through short fern.

Weighted with £34, half-value of 68 chains of fencing on southern boundary.

Hilly country, covered principally with burnt birch, timber, and toitoi, with patches of rimu, totara, matai, tawa, rata, rangiora, and supplejack, and a sprinkling of grass throughout. The section lies at an elevation of about 600 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. and is well watered, the soil being a good clay. A great many of the ridges are flat and plough- able. There are at present sheep and wild cattle running on the section. The access is from Weber, by about seven miles of dray-road (good in summer) and five miles of rough horse-track.

Rural Land in Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of " The Land Act, 1892," and section two of " The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903," I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:-

  1. The rural land enumerated in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twenty-fifth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and six, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedule.

  2. The said land may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity : provided that in the case of land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, it shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.

  3. For the purposes of "The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903," the land enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be "scrub land."

  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said land for a period of two years from the date from which in each case respectively such land is disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such land during such period.

  5. After the first half-year's rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of two years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Situated on the south of the Craigie Lea Road, about nine miles from Te Wharau (on the Gladstone-East Coast Road), Carterton being the nearest railway-station. Access from Carterton via Gladstone, which is about thirty-nine miles distant -from Carterton to Gladstone by eight miles of metalled road; from Gladstone to Te Wharau, twelve miles metalled road and ten miles good summer dray-road; from Te Wharau to section, about four miles summer dray-road, four miles formed horse-track, and about one mile unformed road. Broken hilly land ; well watered by small streams; fair soil of a clayey nature, resting on a papa formation. About 100 acres light bush, mainly manuka and tauhine. Light forest, comprising birch, rimu, and rewarewa, with a light undergrowth of rangiora, &c. Elevation varies from about 700 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-third day of April, one thousand nine hundred and six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease
