GULF ST. VINCENT.-ENTRANCE TO PORT WAKEFIELD. Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 2 of 1906 (New Zealand, No. 13), masters of vessels and others are informed that the Port Wakefield lights will be altered on the 19th instant, and will, on and after that date, show as mentioned here- under :- The present white light on the end of the wharf will be moved about 3 ft. westward, and be changed to a red light. The existing red light at the back will be changed to a bright light. These lights in line will lead midway between the two outer beacons, instead of along the eastern side of the channel as at present.

SPENCER GULF.-Corny POINT LIGHT. Notice is hereby given that on and after the night of 1st December, 1906, the characteristics of Corny Point light will be altered, so that instead of the light being obscured over the Webb Rock and thence inshore, as at present, a red sector will be shown over this arc-i.e., between the bearings of N.E. 1 E. and N.E. by N. 2 N., where it is shut in by the first point to the southward of the lighthouse. The red sector will be visible for 14 miles, the full range of the light.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389A and 2389B.

BOSTON ISLAND, KANGAROO REEF. A cheese-shaped buoy, painted black, surmounted by a staff and diamond, has been placed on the north-eastern extremity of Kangaroo Reef, Boston Island, near Port Lincoln, in five (5) fathoms at L.W.S., the shallowest part of the reef bearing from it south, distant two (2) cables. Approximate position: Lat. 34° 40' 10" S., long. 135° 55' 40" E.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389B and 784.

KANGAROO ISLAND, NEPEAN BAY. A pile beacon with circular red top has been placed in 5 ft. of water at L.W.S. on the eastern extremity of the spit, off Kingscote, Kangaroo Island. Approximate position: Lat. 35° 39' 15" S., long. 137° 41' 40" E.

PORT ADELAIDE RIVER.-OUTER HARBOUR. Notice is hereby given that masters of vessels, pilots, and others about to enter the Port Adelaide River shall, when at the occulting buoy, signal the dredgers by one prolonged blast of thirty seconds' duration on the whistle or syren, and repeat it every minute until such signal is answered from the dredgers. Vessels bound outwards shall give the same signal when abreast of No. 3 light-beacon. Every dredger will repeat the above-mentioned signals if steam is up. If steam is not up, then by waving a flag by day or a white light by night, and at the same time haul to one side of the fairway and show the proper signals.

Masters and pilots are cautioned to keep as near as possible on the line of leads so as not to pass the dredgers too close, and will also reduce speed when approaching and passing them.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Grocers' Shops in the City of Nelson.

WHEREAS by notice dated the 17th day of January, 1906, and gazetted on the 18th day of January, 1906, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon him by section 21 of "The Shops and Offices Act, 1904," and section 5 of "The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905," and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified by those sections, did direct that from and after the 1st day of February, 1906, all grocers' shops in the City of Nelson should be closed at 9 o'clock p.m. on Saturdays, except on Christmas and New Year's Eves: And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the notice by fixing the closing-hour on Saturdays at 9.30 p.m. during the months from May to August, and at 9.45 p.m. during the months from September to April: Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21 of "The Shops and Offices Act, 1904," and section 5 of "The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905," I do hereby vary the said notice by directing that after the 1st day of January, 1907, all grocers' shops shall be closed in accordance with such requisition. Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Inangahua County under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Inangahua County, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in the county, except booksellers and stationers, shall be closed at 6 p.m. on four days in the week-viz., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; the hours for booksellers and stationers to be 8 p.m. on those days; that all shops shall be closed at 10 p.m. on Saturdays, except one Saturday in each month (locally known as pay-Saturday), when the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m., and at 1 o'clock on Wednesdays, the weekly half- holiday (Christmas and New Year's Eves to be excepted, when the hour shall be 11 p.m., or when Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall on Monday the closing-hour on the preceding Saturday shall be 11 p.m.): And whereas the Inangahua County Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the county: Now, therefore, I, Joseph George Ward, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of "The Shops and Offices Act, 1904," and section 5 of "The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905," do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of January, 1907, all shops in the Inangahua County shall be closed in accordance with such requisition. Authorising the Laying-off of Rata Street, in the Township of Tawa Extension No. 1, of a Width of not less than 66 ft.

Department of Lands, Wellington, 14th December, 1906. IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of "The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902," I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, do hereby authorise the laying-off of Rata Street. in the Township of Tawa Extension No 1, Wellington Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft., instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of "The Land Act, 1892." Subsidy to Local Bodies for the Destruction of the Kea increased.-Notice No. 1081.
