BOROUGH OF NEW PLYMOUTH.
In the matter of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”
Proposed Special Loan of £1,000.
I, Edward Dockrill, Mayor of the Borough of New Plymouth, in the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and of all other powers thereunto enabling me, do hereby give notice that on the 7th day of December, 1906, a poll of the said borough was duly taken, under the provisions of the said Act, on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £1,000 by way of special loan, a copy of the notice in respect of which is next hereinafter set out, and that on the taking of the said poll 201 electors voted for the said proposal, and 127 voted against it, and 11 were informal, and that accordingly the said proposal and the resolution in favour thereof have been carried.

NOTICE OF PROPOSED LOAN.
Proposed Special Loan of £1,000.
The Council of the Borough of New Plymouth hereby gives public notice that it proposes to borrow by way of special loan the sum of £1,000, at a rate of interest not exceeding £5 per centum per annum, with a sinking fund of ½ per centum additional, the loan to be repayable on a period ending the 1st day of October, 1922, and to be for the following purposes: £1,000 to provide additions to and extensions of the drainage system of the borough, and any other purposes incidental to or in relation thereto.
The Council proposes to pledge as security for the loan of £1,000 and the interest thereon an annually recurring special rate of ½d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the annual value) of all rateable property within the borough, and its revenues, rents, tolls, issues, and profits, with the exception of all land taken, acquired, or used for public abattoir, and all buildings, erections, structures, and appurtenances now or hereafter thereto belonging, and the revenues, rents, tolls, or profits therefrom, and also excepting moneys received or receivable by way of grant from the Government.
The Council proposes that the first year’s interest, all preliminary expenses incurred in connection with the scheme for which the loan is raised, and the cost of raising the loan be paid out of the proceeds of such loan.

That all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors to the proposal described in the copy-notice above set forth have been duly taken. (2) That upon a poll of the said electors taken on the said proposal on the 7th day of December, 1906, the said proposal was duly carried within the meaning of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.” And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

RED LIGHT ON THE END OF THE JETTY AT COFF’S HARBOUR.
Notice is hereby given that on and after the 24th instant a red light, visible about three miles, will be exhibited, for the convenience of shipping, on the end of the jetty at Coff’s Harbour.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Borough of Eltham.
———
WHEREAS by notice dated the 13th day of February, 1906, and gazetted on the 15th day of February, 1906, the Minister of Labour, in exercise of the powers in that behalf conferred upon him by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” and acting in accordance with a requisition duly made and certified as required by those sections, did direct that from and after the 26th day of February, 1906, all shops in the Borough of Eltham, except in certain trades specified in the Gazette notice, should be closed upon all working-days, except Saturday and Thursday, at 5.30 o’clock from the 1st May to 30th September, and at 6 o’clock p.m. from 1st October to 30th April; on Saturdays at 9 o’clock p.m. from the 1st May to 30th September, and at 9.30 p.m. from 1st October to 30th April; and on Thursdays at 1 o’clock p.m.; except on the night of the day preceding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, or when Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Monday, then till 11 o’clock at night on the Saturday preceding those days: And whereas by a like requisition, duly made and certified as aforesaid, he has been requested to vary the said notice by exempting chemists from being closed between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. on every working-day:
Now, therefore, in compliance with the last-mentioned requisition, and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” I do hereby vary the said notice by directing that on and after the 17th day of December, 1906, the requisition shall accordingly exempt chemists from being closed between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. on every working-day, excepting that on the statutory half-holiday the shops may be open only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances.
