WHEREAS by the two-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Canterbury Land District described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the said Schedule specified at the end of the description of the land so intended to be temporarily reserved.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 3 acres, more or less, being Section No. 3722 (in red), Block X., Waitaki Survey District (formerly part of Section No. 5, Waikakahi Settlement). Bounded towards the north-east by Dog-kennel Road, a distance of 750 links; towards the south-east by the Main South Road, a distance of 400·3 links; towards the south-west and towards the north-west by Section No. 5 (Waikakahi Settlement), Block X., Waitaki Survey District, with distances respectively of 750 and 400·3 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19201/851, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon bordered red. For a site for a public school.

Volunteer Regulations (Addition to).—Capitation and Personal Payments, &c., for Signalling Sections.
PLUNKET, Governor.
WHEREAS by “The Defence Act, 1886,” and the amending Act, 1900, it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor may from time to time make, alter, or revoke regulations respecting the enrolment, promotion, discipline, training, exercise, arms, accoutrements, clothing, equipment, conveyance, pay, rations, and lodging of the Forces, or any portion thereof, and respecting the several other matters in the said Act mentioned: And whereas on the first day of June, one thousand nine hundred and five, certain regulations were made under the said Act, which were published in the New Zealand Gazette of the first day of June, one thousand nine hundred and five: And whereas on the twenty-fourth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and five, certain other regulations were made under the said Act, which were published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-eighth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and five: And whereas it is now expedient to make regulations providing for the earning of capitation, personal payments, and efficiency badges by signalling sections of corps referred to in such last-mentioned Gazette—namely, College Rifle Volunteers (Auckland), Stoke Rifle Volunteers, Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifle Volunteers, Christchurch Volunteer Cycle Corps, and Dunedin Volunteer Cycle Corps:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby make the regulations now set forth as under, which shall come into force on the fourth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and five.
Qualifications for Earning Capitation (Signalling Sections).
Capitation allowance will be granted to all members of signalling sections who have attended parades as under, and who have completed the musketry course laid down in target practice, Table C:—
Each section must go into camp with its company for six days each year.
Men must be present and sleep in camp four days out of the six, and each man must attend eighteen parades, at which at least half of the strength must be present, three being afternoon parades, during the year. Two-thirds of the strength must be present on at least four parades during the year.
Qualifications for earning Personal Payments and Efficiency Badges (Signalling Sections).
The following examination will be held each year:—
(1.) Send and read a service message of one hundred and fifty letters on the large flag at six words per minute.
(2.) Send and read service messages of two hundred letters on the heliograph, lamp, and small flag at eight words per minute.
(3.) Send and read service messages of two hundred letters on the semaphore at ten words per minute.
An accuracy of ninety per cent. will be required to pass. Those members obtaining an accuracy of ninety-five per cent. will receive a badge and a personal payment of one pound.
Any man failing to pass two years in succession will cease to be a member of the signalling section.

WHEREAS by the eleventh section of “The Police Force Act, 1886,” it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor from time to time may make, alter, or revoke such regulations respecting the training, arms, and accoutrements, clothing and equipment, of such Force, and respecting all other matters connected therewith, as may be required for promoting the discipline and efficiency thereof: And whereas of the regulations made on the twenty-third day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight, and gazetted on the first day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight, it is expedient to revoke regulation numbered fifty-nine, and to make a new regulation in lieu thereof:.
