Rural Lands in Hawke’s Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say :—

  1. The rural lands described in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twentieth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and five, at the prices specified in the said Schedule.
  2. The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity : provided that in the case of lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, they shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.
  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands described in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land.”
  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of four years from the date from which in each case respectively such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.
  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years shall not be demanded : provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Hilly land, covered with birch on the ridges, and tawa, rimu, miro, mahoe, and rangiora in the valleys; about 10 acres open scrub land at head of Koranga Stream; soil light; watered by numerous creeks; climate moist. Altitude, 1,700 ft. to 2,500 ft. Situated fifty-seven miles from Gisborne—by dray-road forty-four miles, bridle-track seven miles, pack-track six miles.

Broken and undulating land, covered with birch on the ridges, and tawa, rimu, miro, mahoe, and rangiora in the valleys; the soil is light; watered by numerous creeks; climate moist. Altitude, 1,700 ft. to 3,000 ft. Situated fifty-seven miles from Gisborne—by dray-road forty-four miles, bridle-track seven miles, pack-track six miles.

About one-third of this section is very broken and covered with birch forest; in the south-east there is about 100 acres of fern and scrub; the remainder of the section is not overbroken; the bush including tawa, hinau, rimu, kahikatea, and tarata, with undergrowth of supplejack and fern. Access is too difficult to admit of milling. The soil is of fair quality, pumice land throughout; well watered. Altitude, 1,000 ft. to 2,400 ft. About fifty-two miles from Gisborne and forty-five miles from Wairoa.

Changing the Purpose of Portion of a Reserve in the Canterbury Land District.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power conferred by “The Special Powers and Contracts Act, 1880,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby change the purpose of portion of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto from a “gravel-pit” to a reserve for “recreation-ground.”

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 5 acres 1 rood 8 perches, more or less, being Reserve No. 2423 (formerly part of Reserve No. 743), situate in Block VII., Mairaki Survey District. Bounded towards the north by O’Farrell’s Road, 530 links; towards the east by Reserve No. 743, Block VII., Mairaki Survey District, and the abutment of a road, 1000 links; towards the south by Reserve No. 2422 of the said Block VII., 530 links; and towards the west by the said Reserve No. 2422, 1000 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated upon the plan marked S.G. 54337, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged red.

Notice under Section 18 of “The Cyanide Process Gold-extraction Act, 1897.”

PLUNKET, Governor.

PURSUANT to section eighteen of “The Cyanide Process Gold-extraction Act, 1897,” His Excellency the Governor hereby notifies that the total of the moneys received under the said Act and paid into the Consolidated Fund is equal in amount to the total of the moneys paid under the said Act out of the Consolidated Fund, and that on and after the publication of this notice in the Gazette sections eight to fourteen of the said Act shall cease to be in operation, nevertheless without affecting any liability for royalties owing or penalties incurred under the said Act prior to such date.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-third day of October, one thousand nine hundred and five.
