THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Carterton, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF CARTERTON.

IN pursuance of the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” notice is hereby given that a poll was taken on the 17th day of October, 1905, on the proposal to borrow £6,000 for the purpose of installing municipal gasworks.

Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 119; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 35; number of informal votes, 3.

I accordingly declare the proposal duly carried.

I, James Brown, of Carterton, in the Provincial District of Wellington and Colony of New Zealand, Commission Agent, and Mayor of the Borough of Carterton, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors to the proposal to borrow £6,000 for the purpose of installing municipal gasworks for the Borough of Carterton have been duly taken, and that the proposal has been duly carried; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

BOROUGH OF GREYMOUTH.

I, JAMES ANDREW PETRIE, Mayor of the Borough of Greymouth, hereby give notice that the result of the poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Greymouth, taken at Greymouth on the 10th day of October, 1905, on the following proposal, viz. —

Proposal to raise a special loan under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” upon which a poll will be taken on Tuesday, the 10th day of October, 1905:—

It is proposed to raise a special loan of £15,000 for the purposes and to be expended on the undertakings hereunder set forth — viz., crowning, rolling, and channelling existing streets, £5,193; construction of new streets, Blaketown, £500; construction portion Palmerston and Buccleugh Streets, £280; construction street, freehold, Town Belt, £108; widening portions of High, Alexander, Buccleugh, and Raleigh Streets, £470; renewal of two bridges, Arney Street and Marsden Road, £800; site and shed for road-roller, £350; drain extensions, Arney and Shakespeare Streets, £300; water extensions, various, £300; painting, sanding, and repairing asphalt footpaths, £559; construction of new asphalt footpaths, £1,440; morgue, £250; Town Hall, including deficiency on contract, extras, fittings, and furniture, £2,700; gas-main extensions, £1,000; first year’s interest on loan, £750: total, £15,000. Each of the above sums being appropriated to the work as above set forth.

The Council propose to pledge a special rate of 1916d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the unimproved value) of all rateable property within the Borough of Greymouth as security for the said loan of £15,000 and the interest and sinking fund thereon.

It is proposed that the said loan of £15,000 shall be raised by the issue of 300 debentures of £50 each; the first issue of 120 debentures of £50 each, representing £6,000, to be offered for disposal within one year from the date of carrying the above proposal, and thereafter annually an issue of sixty debentures of £50 each, aggregating £3,000, during the second, third, and fourth years respectively after the carrying of the above proposal.

It is also proposed that the whole of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term of fifteen years computed from the 1st day of November, 1905, subject to a condition that three debentures are to be drawn annually by lot, on or about the 1st day of November, and paid off with interest at the rate aforesaid to date of drawing.

It is also proposed to pay out of the loan the interest thereon for the first year.

REMOVAL OF BUOYS.—ST. LAWRENCE.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the 1st January, 1906, it is intended to remove all buoys from the Port of St. Lawrence, Broadsound; beacons will then be erected to mark the safe navigation into that port.

Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of a Road through Taumata mahoe Block 2b No. 2, Mahoe Survey District, Stratford County.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were in January, 1905, duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated the 11th April, 1904.

Establishment of Government Industrial School.

Education Department,
Wellington, 25th October, 1905.

BY virtue of the power vested in me by sections 4 and 10 of “The Industrial Schools Act, 1882,” I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Education, do hereby notify that I have established at Weraroa, near Levin, in the Wellington District, a Government industrial school, under the name of “The Boys’ Training Farm, Weraroa,” and have approved of George Melville Burlinson as manager thereof within the meaning and for the purposes of the said Act.

The establishment of the said school is to take effect from the 1st November, 1905.
