Prescribing the Manner in which the Account under “The
Agricultural and Pastoral Statistics Act, 1895,” shall be
taken.—Notice No. 988.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in me by “The Agricultural and Pastoral Sta-
tistics Act, 1895,” I, Thomas Young Duncan, Minister for
Agriculture, hereby prescribe that the account referred to
in section 2 of the said Act shall be taken in the following
manner, viz.:
In the Counties of Akitio, Castlepoint, Eketahuna,
Mauriceville, Masterton, Wairarapa South, Featherston,
Kaikoura, Marlborough, Sounds, Waimea, Takaka, Colling-
wood, in the boroughs included within the boundaries
thereof, and in the adjacent islands, every owner and
occupier of land, and every owner or person in charge of
live-stock, shall fill up and post to the Enumerator for the
district, so as to reach him not later than the 17th day of
October, 1905, a return in the form to be obtained from
the Enumerator.
In the remainder of the colony the collection of the
returns shall be carried out by Sub-enumerators, and shall
commence on the 14th day of October, and continue from
day to day until the 10th day of November, 1905, unless
sooner completed.

Examination in Drawing.

NOTICE is hereby given that any pupil-teacher, or any
student of a technical school, or any other person,
may be examined in drawing only either at the Civil Service
Junior Examination or at the Teachers’ Certificate Exami-
nation. Candidates may offer for examination any one
or more of the six branches of drawing prescribed for the
Civil Service Junior Examination or for the Teachers’
Certificate Examination. The fee for examination is 2s. 6d.
for each branch of drawing so offered. Passing in any
branch of drawing will exempt the candidate from further
examination in the same branch for a teacher’s certificate.
Application to be examined must be made on the form pro-
vided, must be accompanied by a bank receipt for the
amount of the fee, and must reach the office of the Inspec-
tor-General of Schools, at Wellington, not later than the
30th September. Forms may be obtained from the office
of any Education Board, or from the office of the Inspec-
tor-General of Schools, at Wellington.
[The Civil Service Junior Examination is held during the
second and third weeks of December, and the Teachers’
Certificate Examination is held early in January. More
precise notification of the date will be sent to each candidate
after receipt of his application to be examined.]

Regulations for the Importation of Carcases (including Meat,
Bones, Hides, &c.) of Live-stock from New Zealand into
Queensland.—Notice No. 984.

THE following regulation of the Queensland Govern-
ment, dated 31st August, 1905, is published for public
information.

REGULATION.
WHEREAS by the Diseases in Stock Acts, 1896 to 1898, it is,
amongst other things, enacted that the Governor in Council
may from time to time, by Order in Council, prohibit or
put restrictions on the importation or introduction of any
stock or any carcase from such places beyond Queensland,
and during such times, as may appear to him expedient:
And whereas the disease called anthrax is known to exist
in the Colony of New Zealand: Now, therefore, His Excel-
lency the Lieutenant-Governor, by and with the advice of
the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the provisions of
the said recited Acts, doth hereby prohibit, for a period of
two years from the date of this order, the importation or
introduction into Queensland of the carcase of any stock
from the Colony of New Zealand, unless the same is accom-
panied by a declaration by the owner thereof and a certi-
ficate of a Government Inspector of Stock declaring and
certifying respectively that such carcase is not affected with
anthrax or any other disease; and such declaration and
certificate shall in respect of hides declare and certify, in
addition to the foregoing particulars, that such hides have
been thoroughly salted and stacked for a period of not less
than seven days.
NOTE.—Under the Diseases in Stock Acts, 1896 to 1898,
the term “carcase” means the carcase of an animal, and
includes part of a carcase, and the meat, bones, hide, skin,
hoofs, horns, offal, or other part of an animal, separately or
otherwise, or any portion thereof.
TENDERS FOR MAIL-SERVICE BETWEEN
TOKAANU, WAIOURU, OHAKUNE, KARIOI,
RAETIHI, MANGAITUROA, AND PIPIRIKI.
General Post Office,
Wellington, 15th September, 1905.
SEALED TENDERS will be received at the
General Post Office, Wellington, until
Saturday, the 21st October proximo, for the
conveyance of mails by four-horse coach between
the undermentioned places for a period of three
years, and also four years, from the 1st January,
1906:—
Tokaanu, Waiouru, Ohakune, Karioi, Raetihi,
Mangaituroa, and Pipiriki, thrice-weekly
between the 1st November and the 30th
April, and twice-weekly between the 1st May
and the 31st October, in each year.
The attention of intending tenderers is directed
to the terms and conditions of contract printed
on the back of the tender forms, which may be
procured at the principal post-offices.
No tender will be considered unless made on
the printed form.
The contractor whose tender may be accepted
must be prepared to carry out the service
according to a time-table framed by the Depart-
ment.
As this mail-route may be shortened by railway
extension, the Postmaster-General may ter-
minate the contract on giving one month’s
previous notice in writing, or may reduce the
subsidy in proportion to the number of miles
the service may be shortened by the length of
railway opened or extended.
Tenders should be indorsed “Tender for
Tokaanu-Pipiriki Mail-service.”
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily
be accepted.
