and he shall exhibit the same on demand to any person in
charge of a horse or vehicle drawn by a horse, or to any
member or official or employee of the Road Board, or to
any constable. It shall be the duty of the owner to furnish
every person employed in driving and conducting the engine
with such copy by-law, and the person in charge with
the certificate.
Schedule A.
License Fee to be paid annually by the Owner of any
Traction-engine, as mentioned or defined by Section 1
of this By-law.
(a.) For a traction-engine, if and while used only
in transporting threshing-machine, chaff-
cutting, or saw-bench plant belonging to the

within the Wakanui Road District for the period of one
year from the date hereof, and no longer, subject to the
said by-laws and to such other by-laws as may from time
to time be in force within the said road district.
Given under my hand, at the Road Board Office, Ash-

Any person committing a breach or failing to comply
with any of the provisions of this by-law shall for each and
every such offence be liable to a penalty not exceeding the
sum of £5. -
These by-laws shall come into force within the
Wakanui Road District as soon as they shall have been
gazetted.

the Heathcote Road Board, is published in accordance
with the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1901.”

HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD.
Notice pursuant to the Provisions of “The Local Bodies'
Loans Act, 1901.”
PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1901,” I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers
in respect of properties comprised in Rural Section 49,
known as “Beckenham,” in the St. Martin's Ward of the
Heathcote Road District, to decide by vote of the rate-
payers whether the proposals for raising a special loan of
£2,200 for a period of fifteen years, with interest payable at
the rate of £5 per centum per annum, without sinking fund,
notice of which was published in the Press of the 17th, 24th,
31st July, and the 7th and 14th August, 1905, should be
carried into effect was duly taken in a building on Mr.
Horsley's premises at the corner of Fisher's Street and
Colombo Road, on Thursday, the 7th day of September,
1905, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. of the said
day.
And I hereby give further notice that at the taking of the
said poll the votes of the said ratepayers in the said Rural
Section 49, known as “Beckenham,” were given as follows:
For the proposal, 48; against the proposal, 21.
The total number of valid votes recorded at the said poll
in favour of the said proposal exceeds three-fifths of the
total number of valid votes recorded thereat, I therefore
declare the said proposal carried.

HIS Excellency the Governor in Council has, in pur-
suance and exercise of the power and authority con-
ferred upon him by section 62 of “The Harbours Act,
1878,” disallowed the by-law which was adopted and passed
by the New Plymouth Harbour Board on the 18th August.
1905, prescribing a berthage charge of 2s. each on passengers
landed or shipped.

Examination in Drawing.

NOTICE is hereby given that any pupil-teacher, or any
student of a technical school, or any other person,
may be examined in drawing only either at the Civil Service
Junior Examination or at the Teachers' Certificate Exam-
nation. Candidates may offer for examination any one
or more of the six branches of drawing prescribed for the
Civil Service Junior Examination or for the Teachers'
Certificate Examination. The fee for examination is 2s. 6d.
for each branch of drawing so offered. Passing in any
branch of drawing will exempt the candidate from further
examination in the same branch for a teacher's certificate.
Application to be examined must be made on the form pro-
vided, must be accompanied by a bank receipt for the
amount of the fee, and must reach the office of the Inspec-
tor-General of Schools, at Wellington, not later than the
30th September. Forms may be obtained from the office
of any Education Board, or from the office of the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington.
[The Civil Service Junior Examination is held during the
second and third weeks of December, and the Teachers'
Certificate Examination is held early in January. More
precise notification of the date will be sent to each candidate
after receipt of his application to be examined.]
