do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after
the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand
Gazette, the parcel of Crown land described in the
Schedule hereto shall be a reserve under the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Otago Land District, containing by
admeasurement 334 acres 3 roods 18 perches, more or less,
being Sections Nos. 22 and 24, Block VIII., Tautuku Survey
District. Bounded towards the north-west by Section No. 21,
Block VIII., Tautuku Survey District, the crossing of Middle
Road, by Section No. 23 of the said Block VIII., by the
Main Road, and by Section No. 25 of Block VIII. aforesaid ;
towards the north-east by a public road ; towards the south-
east by the Tautuku Beach Reserve; and towards the south-
west by a line parallel to the general direction of the left
bank of the Tautuku River, and distant on an average
therefrom about 1700 links, to Section No. 21 aforesaid :
exclusive of that portion of Middle Road which intersects the
above-described area : as the same is delineated on the plan
marked S.G. 53571/4, deposited in the Head Office, Depart-
ment of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington
Land District, and thereon bordered red.

of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight
Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Go-
vernor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His

tion Act, 1903."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by " The Scenery Preservation Act,
1903" (hereinafter referred to as "the said
Act"), it is, inter alia, enacted that the Governor
may from time to time appoint such suitable persons,
not exceeding five, as he thinks fit to be a Commis-
sion under the said Act; such Commission may, if it
deems necessary, inspect any lands possessing scenic
or historic interest, or on which there are thermal
springs, and shall make inquiries respecting the same
and report to the Governor, and shall from time to
time recommend what lands, whether Crown, private
or Native lands, in their opinion should be per-
manently reserved as scenic, thermal, or historic re-
serves; and that the Governor may from time to
time, by Proclamation, declare that any lands so
recommended to be reserved shall be a reserve under
the said Act, and thereupon such lands shall be in-
alienable unless by special Act of Parliament passed
in that behalf, and no person shall cut or remove
timber or in any way interfere with such lands, or
damage the scenic features thereof; and such lands
may be fenced, preserved, and conserved intact as
and for an inalienable patrimony of the people of
New Zealand:

And whereas the Governor has, in pursuance of the
powers conferred by the said Act, appointed certain
persons to be a Commission for the purposes thereof:
And whereas the said Commission has, after making
inquiries respecting the same, reported to the Go-
vemor and recommended that the parcel of Crown
land described in the Schedule hereto should be per-
manently reserved as a scenic reserve: And whereas
it is expedient that the said recommendation should
be given effect to:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the powers and authorities aforesaid
do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after
the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand
Gazette, the parcel of Crown land described in the
Schedule hereto shall be a reserve under the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

measurement 786 acres 3 roods, more or less, being Section
No. 1, Block IX., Woodland Survey District. Bounded
towards the north by a public road forming the southern
boundary of Sections Nos. 2, 3, 4, 22, and 21, Block IX.,
Woodland Survey District; towards the east by a public
road forming the western boundary of Section No. 20 of
Block X. of the said district ; towards the south by a public
road along the high-water mark of the ocean ; and towards
the west by a public road along the left bank of the Tahau-
kupu River : as the same is delineated on the plan marked
S.G. 53578/5, deposited in the Head Office, Department of
Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land
District, and thereon bordered red.

Lower Hutt from the Provisions of Section 3 of " The
Public Works Act, 1903."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this second
day of August, 1905.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the Lower Hutt Borough Council did, on
the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred
and five, pass a resolution excepting from the operation
and provisions of subsection one of section three of " The
Public Works Act, 1903," certain portions of roads or
streets in the said borough and under the control of the
said Council, as described in the Schedule hereto :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers conferred by subsection one of section three of " The
Public Works Act, 1903," and acting by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby approve the said resolution.

SCHEDULE.

THAT portion of Bridge Street measured from the corner of
Hutt Road in a north-westerly direction for a distance of
288.50 links; and also that portion of the main Hutt Road
from the point of its junction with Bridge Street at such
corner to a distance of 615.19 links in a south-westerly
direction, to where it is of a width of 66 ft.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him
by " The Public Works Act, 1894," and of all other
powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excel-
lency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting
by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare
that the road in Whareongaonga Block, in the Cook County,
described in the Schedule hereto, shall, on and after the
date of this Order in Council, be a Government road.
