Should the projecting masts disappear, the lights will continue to be maintained over the position fore and aft the vessel at night, and other warning-marks will be maintained by day until this menace is removed.

NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT PUBLICATION.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 25th July, 1905.
NOTICE is hereby given that the Marine Department of New Zealand has published a small book of navigational tables by Captain H. S. Blackburne, under the title “A, B, and C Azimuth Tables.” By Tables A, B, and C the true bearings of the sun, moon, planets, and fifty-one of the brightest stars are accurately found at any time of day or night by the use of only about half a dozen figures. Table C² (comprised in one page) gives the position-line corresponding to the A and B correction for plotting the “Sumner” position on a plane chart, so that only one chart is needed for any navigable latitude. Table D shows the error produced in the time or longitude by an error of 1′ in the altitude for every degree of azimuth and latitude. Other smaller navigational tables are also given, and numerous worked-out examples and diagrams illustrating the improved “Sumner” method, double altitudes by sun, moon, and stars, azimuths, equal altitudes, &c.
Latitudes 60° N. to 60° S., price, 3s.; latitudes 85° N. to 85° S., price 5s.
Plane “Sumner” charts for use in connection with the above tables are also published by the Marine Department, and sold at 6d. each.
