THE following special order, made by the Kairanga County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886.”

KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Order.
THAT, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Counties Act Amendment Act, 1903,” the Kairanga County Council hereby resolves as follows: That the Council consider it desirable for the more effectual representation in the Council of the whole district now known as the Taonui Riding to divide the same into two separate ridings; that the dividing-line between the two be the Rangitikei line; that the name of the riding on the east side of the Rangitikei line be the Mangaone Riding, and the name of the riding on the west side be the Taonui Riding; that the representation of each riding be three representatives.
I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made in accordance with “The Counties Act, 1886.”

RESULT OF POLL FOR PROPOSED LOAN.
Reefton Irrigation District, County of Inangahua.
THE following is the result of a poll of the ratepayers of the Reefton Irrigation District taken on the 28th day of June, 1905, on the proposal to borrow £1,800 for a period of forty-one years, at 4 per cent. per annum, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of rebuilding the Reefton Water-race and constructing an additional reservoir: For the proposal, 92; against the proposal, 63; informal, 4.
The number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal being less than three-fifth of the total number of valid votes recorded, I therefore declare the proposal rejected.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
(Received from the Premier of the Commonwealth of Australia.)
“WAKATIPU” ROCK, BASS STRAIT. — This hitherto uncharted danger has now been located by the survey-ship “Wybia,” and is in latitude 39° 45½′ south, and longitude 147° 25¼′ east, the least depth found at low water, spring tides, being 8 ft.

TASMAN ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE.
Preliminary Notice.
Notice is hereby given that a lighthouse is now in course of erection on the S.E. portion of Tasman Island.
The apparatus will have five sides, 72 degrees each, and will make a revolution in 25 seconds.
Characteristics of light: White; 1st order; half-second flash every 5 seconds; visible in mean state of atmosphere, thirty-six miles; height above sea-level, 907 ft.
Due notice of the exact date when the light will be exhibited and other particulars will be given later on.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Wreck of the Barque “Mayfield,” near Swan Island.
SWAN ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE bears south (magnetic), distant half a sea-mile from the wreck. The vessel lies with her head to the eastward, in 7 fathoms of water, and the jibboom is 6 ft. out of water at high tide, the rest of the wreck being submerged.
Chart affected: Banks Strait, No. 1706.

838. BRITISH COLUMBIA.
BROUGHTON STRAIT.—MITCHELL BAY.—KELP PATCH REPORTED.—Captain F. T. Saunders, master of the steamer “Coquitlam,” reports the existence of a patch of kelp, suspected of indicating a shoal, off Donegal Head, Malcolm Island, in the approach to Mitchell Bay.
Approx. position: Lat. 50° 36′ 58″ N., long. 126° 51′ 00″ W.
From the patch the south tangent of Donegal Head bears N. 57° E. true (N.N.E. ⅔ E. mag.), and Stubbs Island S. 59° E. true (E. ½ S. mag.), distant 2,200 yards.
839. BRITISH COLUMBIA.
LAREDO CHANNEL. — UNCHARTED ROCKS. — DIRECTIONS.—Captain Holmes Newcomb, master of D.G. steamer “Kestrel,” reports the existence of an uncharted rock in the middle of Laredo Channel, between Aristazable and Princess Royal Islands. The rock carries 8 feet and is covered with kelp.
Approx. position: Lat. 52° 47′ 10″ N., long. 129° 05′ 37″ W.
A reef is also reported extending 1 mile due east from Channel Rock in the same channel, covered with kelp and drying in patches, where the chart shows 40 fathoms, no bottom.
Captain Hughes, master of the steamer “Princess Beatrice,” reports the existence of a sunken rock, covered with kelp, between Spray Point and Surf Inlet. From the rock Spray Point bears S. 8° E. true (S.E. by S. mag.), and the westernmost Surf Island N. 42° W. true (W.N.W. mag.).
Mariners navigating this channel from the southward are advised, after passing Schooner Point, to immediately haul over to the north-east shore and keep it close aboard until Spray Point is passed, as the middle and south-west side of Laredo Channel are reported full of dangers.
840. BRITISH COLUMBIA.
QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND.—KNIGHT AND KINGCOME INLETS APPROACHES.—UNCHARTED ROCKS.—HYDROGRAPHIC NOTES.—Captain F. T. Saunders, master of the steamer “Coquitlam,” reports the existence of the following uncharted rocks and suspicious patches of kelp in the vicinity of the approaches to Knight Inlet and Kingcome Inlet from Queen Charlotte Sound. The positions have not been accurately fixed and are to be considered as approximate only.
Kelp, between the 14- and 20-fathom soundings south-east of Berry Island, 600 yards S. 9° E. true (S.E. by S. mag.) from the east tangent of that island. A boat is reported to have struck a rock here.
Lat. 50° 35′ 55″ N., long. 126° 39′ 10″ W.
