Notifying Lands in Wellington Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the fifteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five, as the time at which the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction at Wanganui; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such lands respectively.

These sections are a portion of the Mowhanau Village in the Kai-Iwi Block, situated on the sea-coast. The access is from Wanganui, which is about ten miles distant by a buggy-road, and by a pack-track from the Kai-Iwi Railway-station. The sections comprise flat and undulating land, all in grass; the soil is of a sandy loam, resting on papa formation. The elevation ranges from about 50 ft. to about 170 ft. above sea-level.

This township is situated on the North Island Main Trunk Railway, about fifty miles from Marton, being connected by road with Taihape Township, which is distant about six miles and a half. The land adjoining has been settled on for several years, and holders are residing upon their selections. The Main Road is formed through the township, and railway formation-works are in progress. The township sections offered vary from flat to easy-sloping land. The soil throughout is very fair. Most of the sections are open grass land. The elevation is about 1,700 ft. above sea-level.

Duty to be levied on Bush’s Cream of Tartar Substitute.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS a certain article of merchandise known as “Bush’s Cream of Tartar Substitute” is imported into New Zealand, which is apparently a substitute for cream of tartar, the latter being a dutiable article under “The Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1888”:

And whereas Bush’s Cream of Tartar Substitute has properties which enable it to be used for a similar purpose as cream of tartar:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority conferred upon me by section seventeen of “The Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1888,” do hereby direct that on and after the date hereof there shall be levied on Bush’s Cream of Tartar Substitute a duty of one penny the pound, such duty being equal to the duty on cream of tartar.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and five.
