Rural Lands in Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say :—

  1. The rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the twenty-ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five, at the prices specified in the said Schedule.

  2. The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on lease in perpetuity: provided that in the case of land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, it shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only and shall not be purchased for cash.

  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “light-bush land.”

  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for a period of three years from the date from which such lands are disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such lands during such period.

  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of three years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Altitude from 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. About 8 acres open land, balance light mixed bush comprising puriri, hinau, tawa, taraire, and nikau, with light undergrowth of supplejack, fern, and manuka. Soil of second-class quality resting on limestone; watered by small creeks. Access from Kaitaia main road, and situated at Kaitaia, about three miles and a half from post-office.

Altitude from 200 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. About 40 acres open land, balance light mixed bush comprising puriri, taraire, kahikatea, and hinau. Soil of second-class quality, resting on limestone. Access from Kaitaia main road, about one mile distant; situated about four miles from Kaitaia Post-office.

Altitude 150 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. About 20 acres open land, balance mixed bush, comprising puriri, rimu, tawa, matai, and taraire, and 40,000 ft. of kauri, for which a payment of £20 must be made immediately on approval of the application. Watered by small creeks. Soil of second-class quality, resting on limestone. Access from Kaitaia main road, about one mile and a half distant, and situated about four miles and a half from Kaitaia Post-office.

Altitude from 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. About 40 acres open land and 3 acres swamp, balance light mixed bush comprising puriri, rimu, tawa, hinau, rewarewa, with light undergrowth of fern and manuka. Soil second-class quality, resting on limestone. Access from Kaitaia main road, distant two miles, and situated about five miles from Kaitaia Post-office.

Rural Land in Otago Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the fourteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as it contains, or is supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

This section contains some level land, but it is not of good quality, and is somewhat stony in places. The ridge-faces are of fair quality, and have a westerly aspect. Situated about twelve miles from Lawrence, and about a mile and a half from Rongahere School and Post-office.
