PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Special Order.

I, GEORGE THOMAS LONDON, Mayor of the Borough of Petone, do hereby certify that at a special meeting of the Borough Council of the Borough of Petone held on the 27th day of February, 1905, the resolution hereinafter set out was duly passed; and, after the same had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” regulating the making of special orders, such resolution was duly confirmed at a meeting of the Council of the said borough held on the 27th day of March, 1905; such resolution being in the words and figures following:—

“In pursuance of the powers vested in it in that behalf by ‘The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,’ and ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,’ the Council of the Borough of Petone does hereby resolve as follows: That, for the purpose of providing interest, sinking fund, and other charges on a loan of £8,000 authorised to be raised by the Petone Borough Council, under the provisions of ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,’ for the purpose of enlarging the gas-making plant and extending the mains of the Corporation Gasworks of the aforesaid borough, the Council of the said Petone Borough hereby makes and levies a special rate of 3½d. in the pound sterling on the annual rateable value of all the rateable property within the boundaries of the said Borough of Petone, as set out in the Proclamation creating the said borough published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 5th day of July, 1888; and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and shall be payable on the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan during the period of twenty years, or until the loan is fully paid off.”

THE following special order, made by the Waimarino County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

SPECIAL ORDER MAKING SPECIAL RATE.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1901,” and amendments thereto, the Waimarino County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £175 authorised to be raised by the Waimarino County Council, under the provisions of “The Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1901,” for completing the formation and metalling Mill Road from Main Road to Punch’s gate, the said Waimarino County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1½d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property within the Mill Road Rating-area—Sections 262, 279, 281, 283, 285, 287, 19, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210, 200, 201, 202, Block VI., Makotuku; also Sections 98, 117, Block X., Raetihi Township; 118, 137, Block XI., Raetihi Township; 203, 204, Block XII., Raetihi Township — and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 8th day of November and the 8th day of May in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a [period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

THE following is the result of the poll taken on Wednesday, 22nd March, 1905, on a proposal to borrow £700 for the purpose of metalling :—

For the proposal, 23 votes; against the proposal, 17 votes. As there were not the required number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare it to be rejected.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hutt County Council has, by special order, declared broom, gorse, ragwort, ox-eye daisy, milk-thistle, tutsan, and St. John’s wort to be noxious weeds within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” in the district under the Council’s jurisdiction, and has revoked its special order referred to in Notice No. 682, published in the Gazette of 9th January, 1902.

Notice to Mariners No. 20 of 1905.

INCREASED POWER OF NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOUR LIGHT.

NOTICE is hereby given that a new fourth-order dioptric light has been established in the lighthouse at New Plymouth, at an elevation of 100 ft. above high water, in lieu of the former fifth-order light. The light is red, and is situated in exactly the same position as the old one, and it should be visible from a distance of about sixteen miles.

Leading-marks, Lonsdale Bight.

REFERRING to General Notice to Mariners, Victoria, dated 24th September, 1901, page 62, it is hereby notified that the rear beacon has been altered in shape to an inverted triangle, and painted black with a vertical white central strip. The front beacons will be painted white forthwith. Such beacons do not now define the deep-water channel, but may be used as leading-marks for the navigation of vessels entering from or leaving towards the eastward.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that “The Commonwealth Defence Act, 1903,” Part VI., contains the following sections :—

“71. The officer in charge of any artillery or rifle range may stop all traffic, during artillery or rifle practice, on any road or water-way crossing the line of fire or in dangerous proximity thereto.”
