Port Phillip Heads.—Blasting and Sweeping Operations.
Pilots, exempt masters, and boatmen are hereby notified that blasting and sweeping operations in the fairway at entrance to Port Phillip will be resumed on or about the 9th instant.
The following signals will be shown from the masthead of the steamer engaged on the work:—
Letter B when on blasting, and code signal X H C when on sweeping duty.
When a charge is ready for exploding, a red flag will be shown from the larger of the boats engaged on the work, and prolonged whistle-blats blown by the attendant steamer. On receiving such warning signals, mariners and others are cautioned not to approach the working boats nearer than half a mile. Mariners are specially requested to keep clear of the steamer when sweeping, as the apparatus will render the vessel’s movements slow and uncertain.
