Ngatimutunga Hapu, or their successors, for whose benefit the said Commissioners recommended that the said block of land should be set apart, taking into consideration all the circumstances and conditions under which the said block of land was so recommended by the said Commissioners to be set aside for such absentees, and also taking into consideration any former award of any Compensation Court, Commissioner, or grant from the Crown in connection with the taking, under the provisions of “The New Zealand Settlements Act, 1863,” of the lands situated between the White Cliffs and the Waitotara River, on the west coast of the North Island.

And for the better enabling you to carry these presents into effect you are hereby authorised and empowered to make and conduct any inquiry hereunder at such place or places in the said colony as you may deem expedient, and to call before you and examine on oath, or otherwise as may be allowed by law, such person or persons as you may think capable of affording you information in the premises; and you are hereby empowered to call for and examine all such books, documents, papers, maps, plans, accounts, or records as you shall judge likely to afford you information on the subject of this Commission, and to inquire of any person concerning the premises by all other lawful ways and means whatsoever.

And, using all diligence, you are required to transmit to me, under your hand and seal, your opinions and recommendations resulting from such investigations and inquiries not later than the thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and five, or such extended date as may be appointed in that behalf.

And it is hereby declared that this Commission shall continue in full force and virtue although the inquiry be not regularly continued from time to time by adjournment; and that you shall and may from time to time proceed to the execution thereof and of every power, matter, or thing herein contained.

And, lastly, it is hereby declared that this Commission is issued under and subject to the provisions of “The Commissioners Act, 1903.”

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, this twenty-sixth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and five.

Special Order made by the Council of the County of Masterton.

THE following special order, made by the Masterton County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Masterton County Council striking a Special Rate under “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901.”

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901,” the Masterton County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing interest and other charges on a loan of £300 authorised to be raised by the Masterton County Council, under the above-mentioned Act, for the formation and metalling of a road on Lansdowne Estate giving access to Lot 9 of Sections 1 and 2, Block XIII., Kopuaranga Survey District, and other adjacent properties (and now known as Gordon Street), the said Masterton County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of ⅞d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Gordon Street Loan Special-rating District, comprising Lot 1 of Section 1, Block XIII., Kopuaranga, 101 acres 2 roods 18 perches; Lot 9 of Sections 1, 71, 73, 75, Blocks I., Otahoua, and XIII., Kopuaranga, 80 acres; Lot 9 of Sections 1 and 2, Block XIII., Kopuaranga, 124 acres 1 rood 2 perches; part of Lot 7 of Sections 75 and 77, Block I., Otahoua, 25 acres; parts of Sections 1, Block XIII., Kopuaranga, and 71, 73, 75, Blocks XIII., Kopuaranga, and I., Otahoua, 315 acres 3 roods; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

Passed by the said Council at a special meeting this 15th day of December, 1904; confirmed this 12th day of January, 1905.

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

SPECIAL ORDER made on the 23rd Day of November, 1904; confirmed on the 7th Day of January, 1905.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them in that behalf by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901,” the Cook County Council do hereby resolve as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £700 authorised to be raised by the Cook County Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901,” for erecting a cart-bridge across the Wharekopae River, the said Cook County Council do hereby make and levy a special rate of 1⁵⁄₈d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Wharekopae Bridge Loan District, comprising part Run 1, Block VI., Ngatapa Survey District; part Run 2, Block VII., Ngatapa Survey District; Section 2, Block XIII., Ngatapa Survey District; Section 1, Block V., Ngatapa Survey District; Section 1, Block X., Ngatapa Survey District; Sub. 1 of 1, Okahuatiu; part Wharekopae 1A, Blocks VII. and XI., Ngatapa Survey District; Section 1, Block IX., Ngatapa Survey District; part Okahuatiu No. 1, 5,000 acres; part Wharekopae 1A, Blocks VII. and XI., Ngatapa Survey District; Wharekopae 2A, Tangihanga C1, Wharekopae 2B, Block VIII., Ngatapa Survey District; Crown Lands 1, 2, 3, and 2, C2, Section 2, Tahora; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of August in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off. The rate of interest to be 4 per cent.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Cook was hereto affixed in the presence of—
