THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the
Borough of Gisborne, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF GISBORNE.
In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,”
and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and in the
matter of the proposal of the Council of the Borough of
Gisborne to raise a special loan for the purpose of acquir-
ing a watershed at the head of the Te Arai Stream,
including payment for land, together with the preliminary
expenses and cost of acquisition thereof, and to pay for
land already acquired for this purpose, and the expenses
of acquisition thereof, and also a high-pressure water-
supply from source at head of Te Arai Stream, with a
reservoir and necessary mains, the sum to be borrowed
for such purpose being £75,000; the proposed security
for and provision for repayment of the loan being the
land acquired, or to be acquired, for the waterworks, and
the waterworks as undertaken, and a special rate of
1s. 7d. in the pound upon the annual or rental value of
all rateable property within the Borough of Gisborne;
also a sinking fund of one-half (10s.) per centum per
annum out of such special rate being set aside towards
repayment of the loan. The preliminary expenses and
the first year’s interest to be paid out of the loan.
NOTE.—The scheme is to provide for the reticulation of
the town and suburbs, as per plan approved of by the
Council, and referred to in the minutes of the 11th
October, 1904, and also produced to the meeting of
electors held on the 23rd day of November, 1904. The
scheme to also provide at least 1,000 gallons of water per
minute for ten hours in any twenty-four hours.
I HEREBY give notice that on Wednesday, the 7th day of
December, 1904, a poll of the electors (all having residential
qualifications being excluded) of the said borough was
taken upon the proposal of the said Council of the said
borough, in pursuance of the powers and provisions con-
tained in the said Acts, and all other powers enabling it in
that behalf, and at the said poll the resolution in favour of
such proposal was duly carried, 583 votes being recorded in
favour of the proposal, and 156 against; informal, 19. I
therefore declare the proposal to be duly carried.

said Acts, and all other powers enabling it in that behalf,
and at the said poll the resolution in favour of such pro-
posal was duly carried, 609 votes being recorded in favour of
the proposal, and 137 against; informal, 12. I therefore
declare the proposal to be duly carried.

Proposal to raise a loan of £4,000, upon which a poll was
taken on the 7th day of December, 1904:—
The result of the poll of ratepayers, taken on the 7th day
of December, 1904, on the proposal to raise the sum of
£4,000 by way of loan for the widening, grading, kerbing,
channelling, and re-forming of Remuera Road, and of Market
Road at its junction therewith, having been ascertained, I
hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for
and against the proposal was as follows:—
For the proposal, 274; against the proposal, 2; informal, 1.
And I hereby declare that the resolution in favour of such
proposal was carried.

has now published the “New Zealand Nautical
Almanac and Tide-tables” for 1905. The work also con-
tains Captain Blackburne’s very comprehensive azimuth
tables, and the latest information about changes on the New
Zealand coast, and harbours, &c., with other and additional
information to that published in the editions of the two pre-
vious years.
The book can be obtained from the Customhouses at the
principal ports, or from local booksellers, price 2s.

HIS Excellency the Governor has, in pursuance of
section 9 of “The Hospitals and Charitable Insti-
tions Act, 1885,” been pleased to appoint that the first
meeting of the Board of the District of Waiapu shall be
held on Saturday, the 17th day of December, 1904, at noon,
at the County Council Office, Waipiro Bay; that such
meeting be presided over by Thomas Edward Sherwood;
and that two shall be the number of members necessary to
constitute a meeting of the Board for the conduct of busi-
ness.
