Locality and Description of Pongaroa Township.

This township is situated on the Alfredton-Weber Road, at its junction with the Aohanga-Gorge Road from Makuri, on the eastern side of the Puketoi Ranges, and in the centre of a large district originally taken up on special-settlement conditions.

It is distant about thirty miles from Pahiatua, forty-two miles from Eketahuna, forty miles from Dannevirke, and seventeen miles from the Aohanga landing-place on the east coast.

The Alfredton-Weber Road is constructed through the township; the road from Makuri to Pongaroa is formed, and the metalling thereof nearly completed.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this ninth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and four.

Changing the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve in the Wellington Land District.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS the provisions and requirements of the seventh section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” have been duly complied with in respect of the land described in the second column of the Schedule hereto: And whereas notices in the Gazette have been duly published for four consecutive weeks, and laid before both Houses of Assembly, as provided by the ninth section of the said Act: And whereas no resolution of either House of Assembly has been passed that such House does not concur in the intention declared in any such notice:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Act aforesaid, do hereby change the specific purpose of the portion of the reserve described in the second column of the Schedule hereto from that named in the first column of the said Schedule to that named in the third column of the said Schedule respectively.

SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Original Reserve. Description of Portion changed. Purpose.
All that area of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 roods, more or less, being Section No. 640, Town of Palmerston North. Reserved for railway purposes in the New Zealand Gazette of the 20th March, 1890, page 307. All that area of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 12·5 perches, more or less, being part of Section No. 640, Town of Palmerston North. Bounded towards the north-east by Section No. 638; towards the south-east by Church Street to a point on the northern side of the said Church Street being 31·3 links distant from the southernmost corner of the said Section No. 638; towards the south-west by a line parallel to and distant from the south-western boundary-line of the said Section No. 638, 31·3 links, to the south-eastern boundary-line of Section No. 639; towards the north-west by the said Section No. 639 to the southernmost corner of the said Section No. 638, the place of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 51266, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon coloured red. Municipal.
