Regulations under “The Civil Service Reform Act, 1886,”
and under “The Civil Service Examination Act, 1900.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this third day
of October, 1904.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by “The Civil Service Reform Act,
1886,” and by “The Civil Service Examination Act, 1900,”
His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the colony, doth hereby, in respect
of the regulations made by Order in Council under the said
Acts on the twenty-fourth day of July, one thousand nine
hundred and one, and on the thirtieth day of May, one
thousand nine hundred and four, make the alterations and
additions set forth in the Schedule hereto; and with the
like advice and consent doth provide that this Order shall
come into force on the date of the first publication thereof
in the New Zealand Gazette.


SCHEDULE.

In the regulations for the Junior Examination, clause 3 is
amended by the insertion of the following words after the
words “by the several examiners”:

“The maximum marks assignable by examiners in the
several subjects shall be—in English, 300; in Arithmetic,
200; and in every other subject, 100.”

The same clause is further amended by the insertion of
the following words after the words “three optional sub-
jects taken together”:

“Every candidate that so passes the examination and
that obtains not less than 60 per cent. on the whole examina-
tion shall be deemed to have passed with credit.”

tion and Classification of Teachers.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this third day
of October, 1904.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by “The Education Act, 1877,” His
Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the colony, doth hereby, in respect
of the regulations made by Order in Council under the said
Act on the twenty-eighth day of October, one thousand nine
hundred and three, make the alterations and additions set
forth in the Schedule hereto; and with the like advice and
consent doth provide that this Order shall come into force
on the date of the first publication thereof in the New
Zealand Gazette.


SCHEDULE.

CLAUSE 21, Examination for Class D, is amended by in-
serting the following words after the words “University of
New Zealand”:

“Or that shall hereafter pass the Civil Service Junior
Examination with credit.”

Providing for extending the Maximum Amount of
Money-orders.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this third day of
October, 1904.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section sixty-four of “The Post Office
Act, 1900” (hereinafter termed “the said Act), it is,
among other things, provided that the Governor in Council
may from time to time make arrangements with any postal
authority for the transmission through the medium of the
Post Office or the electric telegraph, by means of money-
orders, of any money to or from any place whatsoever, and
for the reciprocal delivery and payment of the same, and
may fix rates of charges for such transmission, delivery,
and payment, and may also make regulations prescribing
the manner in which and the conditions subject to which
money-orders may be issued and paid:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act,
and acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make the
regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth order
and declare that such regulations shall have effect on and
after the first day of October, one thousand nine hundred
and four.


SCHEDULE.

  1. A SINGLE money-order may be issued in New Zealand for
    payment therein, or in the United Kingdom, or in any of His
    Majesty’s colonies or possessions, or in any foreign country,
    of a sum not exceeding £40 sterling: Provided that the con-
    sent in writing of the postal authority of the country upon
    which such orders are drawn has first been obtained for the
    issue and payment of such orders as aforesaid.

  2. The commission to be charged on every money-order
    issued in New Zealand, whether for payment therein or for
    transmission to and payment in other countries, shall be:—

For money-orders issued in New Zealand for payment in
New Zealand—

For each £5 or fraction thereof .. .. 6d.

For money-orders issued in New Zealand for payment in
the Commonwealth of Australia, Samoa, and Fiji—

For sums not exceeding £ s. d.

  1. The general regulations for the time being in force
    within New Zealand and applicable to the issue and pay-
    ment of post-office money-orders shall extend and apply
    to the money-orders the issue and payment of which are
    hereinbefore provided for, and all regulations and orders so
    far as they are at variance with these regulations are hereby
    revoked.
