Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Situated on Aorangi Road. Access is from Ongarue, distant by dray-road thirty-one miles, and by horse-track nine miles. This section comprises level, hilly, and undulating fern land, with small patches of tawa, rimu, rata, &c. The soil is good, on sandstone formation; well watered. Elevation varies from 420 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on Tokirima Road. Access is from Ongarue, distant by dray-road thirty-one miles, and by a horse-track (mostly across country) eight and a half to ten and a half miles. Level, hilly, and undulating land; fern and light scrub, koromiko, manuka, tutu, &c.; forest of tawa, rimu, hinau, &c. Soil good, on sandstone-and-papa formation; well watered. Elevation varies from 400 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

TOTORO SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on Wairere Road. Access is from Te Kuiti, distant sixteen miles by dray-road, four miles pack-track, and two miles and a half by surveyed road. There is also a pack-track across country to section. The land is low and undulating, covered with fern and a little manuka. Fair soil, on limestone formation; well watered. Elevation varies from 200 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level.
