And whereas the Wairoa Road Board has laid before the Governor the memorial, accompanied by a map, and also the statutory declaration, as required by “The Public Works Act, 1894”:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are hereby taken for the purposes of the Clevedon-Mataitai Road.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the twenty-third section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor, by Proclamation in the Gazette, may from time to time establish and define, abolish, alter, or reconstitute local districts for the sale or disposal of land, and in like manner from time to time may appoint land offices, and land officers or other persons for conducting sales of land in such local districts, and for receiving applications for the sale, letting, disposal, or occupation of Crown lands, and for generally carrying into effect the provisions of the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the district described in the Schedule hereto is hereby established, defined, and constituted a local land district for the sale and disposal of land under the said Act, and that the land offices the names of which are in the said Schedule set opposite the name of the said local district are appointed the land offices for the said local district.

Land temporarily reserved in the Canterbury Land District.
RANFURLY, Governor.
WHEREAS by the two-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Canterbury Land District described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the said Schedule specified at the end of the description of the land so intended to be temporarily reserved.
SCHEDULE.
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 24 acres, more or less, being Section No. 3659 (in red), Blocks VIII. and XII., Christchurch Survey District, and known as the Horseshoe Lake (Waikakariki). Bounded towards the north generally by the road reserved along the said lake, and fronting Rural Sections Nos. 1327, 1053, and 1132; and towards the east, south, and west generally by Rural Sections Nos. 1068, 861, 831, and 9583: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 51300, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon bordered red. For a sanctuary for wild fowl.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and four.

Bounded towards the north-west by Section No. 2, Opoe Survey District, towards the south-east by Section No. 1, Opoe Survey District, and towards the south-west by the Rotoroa Kauri-gum Extension Reserve and a public road; as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 49401, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon bordered purple. For a site for a Native school.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and four.
