ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this eleventh day of May, 1904.

THE HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the fourth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and one, purporting to be made under authority of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, made and published certain regulations, numbered one to six inclusive, for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of section fifty of the said Act relating to the adoption of children by Natives according to Maori custom:

And whereas it is expedient to make further regulations under the same authority for the purpose aforesaid:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in further exercise of the powers and authority conferred by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council aforesaid, do hereby make and publish the additional regulations following:—

  1. Before registering any adoption the Registrar shall require in respect thereof a certificate by a Judge of the Native Land Court that he has inquired into the circumstances of the said adoption, and that he is satisfied that the same is a bonâ fide adoption according to Native custom, and ought to be given effect to.

  2. Such inquiry shall be made in open Court on the application in writing of the person desiring the same. Every such application shall before hearing be duly notified in the Gazette and Kahiti.

  3. The fee payable with each application shall be £1, which shall include certificate and registration fees, but shall not include fees incidental to hearing unless the Judge shall otherwise order.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the undermentioned local governing bodies have by special order declared the plants enumerated opposite each to be noxious weeds within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” in the district under the jurisdiction of each respectively:—
