THE following special order, made by the Gore Borough Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

GORE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Special Order making Special Rate.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments, the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Gore hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £1,446, authorised to be raised by the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Gore, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the East Gore water-supply, the said Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Gore hereby makes and levies a special rate of ⅔d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Borough of Gore; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of April and the 1st day of October in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

Dated this 21st day of March, 1904.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Waitotara, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESULT of the poll taken on Wednesday, the 23rd March, 1904, on the proposal to raise a loan of £4,000 for thirty-two years, at 4½ per cent., for bridges and roads in the Waitotara County:—

Total number of votes recorded at all polling-places: For the proposal, 148; against the proposal, 196; informal, 1: majority against the proposal, 48.

A majority of three-fifths of the valid votes recorded being required to carry the proposal, I therefore declare the proposal to raise a loan of £4,000 to be rejected.

OPOTIKI TOWN BOARD.

RESULT of poll taken on the 16th day of March, 1904, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” on the proposal of Opotiki Town Board to borrow the sum of £300 for the purpose of the erection of a wharf and grain-shed on the Otara River:—

Number of valid votes recorded for the proposal, 32; number of valid votes recorded against the proposal, 30; informal votes, 2.

As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is less than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the said proposal rejected.

RESULT of a poll, taken in the Public Hall at Cheltenham, on the 22nd day of March, 1904, on a proposal made by the Kiwitea County Council to raise a loan of £800, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of forming, culverting, and metalling Barrow’s Line:—

Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 42; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 0.

I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

For the proposal, 104; against the proposal, 62; informal, 1: majority of valid votes for the proposal, 42. I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Commissions as Medical Officers in the Royal Navy to Qualified Candidates in the Australasian Colonies.

THE following copy-letter addressed to the Commander-in-Chief, H.M. ships and vessels, Australia, by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, on the subject of the allotment of a certain number of commissions as medical officers in the Royal Navy to qualified candidates in the Australasian Colonies, is published for general information.

SIR,—With reference to your submission of the 8th June last, No. 175/1821, on the subject of the entry into the Royal Navy of medical men who have qualified at colonial universities, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you that they have decided to allot a certain number of commissions as medical officers to qualified candidates in the Australasian Colonies under the following arrangement:—

(i.) During the next three years Australia to be offered two commissions a year, and New Zealand one, in alternate years — i.e., six for Australia and two for New Zealand during that period.

(ii.) The candidates to be selected by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth and the Governor of New Zealand respectively, after consulting the Commander-in-Chief on the station, on the recommendation of the university authorities.

(iii.) Candidates must be registered medical practitioners, and hold suitable certificates in both medicine and surgery granted by the Universities of Sydney, Melbourne, or Adelaide, or the University of New Zealand.
