Rural Lands in Otago Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the twenty-ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

A level section, with soil of good quality; about half the area is covered more or less with rocks, but the remainder is cultivable. Situated at Tuapeka Mouth, where there is a post-office and school.

Second-class Land.

Weighted with £45 10s. 9d. valuation for improvements. Open land, with soil of very fair quality; well watered. Situated about two miles from the Town of Naseby.

Notifying Land in Wellington Land District for Sale by Public Auction.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Tuesday, the twenty-second day of March, one thousand nine hundred and four, as the time at which the land enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the price at which the said land shall be sold as that mentioned in the said Schedule hereto.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—HUTT COUNTY.—KAITAWA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted with £718 8s. 3d. valuation for improvements. This section is situated in the Wellington Fruitgrowers’ Block, to the east of and adjoining the Waikanae Stream. The access is from Waikanae Railway-station, which is about two miles and a half distant by a good metalled dray-road. The section is all flat. The bush has been felled and the land laid down in English grasses. The soil is of good quality, resting on a clay and shingle formation. The elevation is about 140 ft. above sea-level. The section is weighted with £718 8s. 3d. valuation for improvements, which include those effected by the Otaki-Manakau Co-operative Dairy Company (Limited), valued at £717 5s.

Situated about four miles from Gorge Road Railway-station; road partly formed to within two miles of section; present access by Mataura River. Soil swampy and inferior; about 60 acres of good land along bank of river, balance bad peat bog; land mostly covered with light bush, consisting of red, white, and black pine—small trees, suitable only for fencing and firewood; scrub light; well watered.

OTARA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted with £55 for cottage and fencing, and £18 10s. for clearing and grassing—total valuation for improvements, £73 10s.; also with £4 for survey fee. Situated about ten miles by beach road and fourteen miles by inland road from Fortrose. Soil sandy loam; land mostly cleared; 4 acres in grass, the remaining bush partly cleared, being mostly kamahi, fit only for fencing and firewood; well watered.

OTARA* AND WAIKAWA† SURVEY DISTRICTS.

Weighted with £240, valuation for house and garden, clearing and fencing. Situated about eight miles from Waikawa and twelve from Fortrose by back road; access bad. Clay soil, rock formation; about 20 acres cleared, balance covered with bush, containing a few large trees, mostly kamahi, only fit for firewood; underscrub heavy; well watered.
