  1. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the First Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land,” the lands in the Second Schedule shall be deemed to be “light-bush land,” and the lands in the Third Schedule shall be deemed to be “scrub land.”

  2. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for the period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, three years in the case of light-bush land, and two years in the case of scrub land, from the date from which in each case respectively such land is disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such land during such period.

  3. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, three years in the case of light-bush land, and two years in the case of scrub land shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Section 10, about 20 acres high tea-tree, balance heavy mixed bush, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, kohekohe, and a few puriri; land somewhat broken; soil good. Section 11, all heavy mixed bush, containing rata, rimu, tawa, and kohekohe; somewhat broken; soil good. Section 12, a few acres high tea-tree and light bush with small flats near Ngarua Stream; balance heavy bush, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, kohekohe; somewhat broken; soil good and well watered.

These sections lie from eighteen to twenty-five miles north-east of Ohinewai Railway-station. There is a cart-road formed to the Kaihere Settlement, within three miles of the close end of the land.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
Second-class Light-bush Land.

About two-thirds heavy to light mixed bush, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, and kohekohe, with a few puriri; balance tea-tree and fern; bush land good, but open land poor.

Section 8, about two-thirds mixed bush, ranging from light to heavy, containing rimu, rata, and a few puriri; balance mostly heavy tea-tree; land undulating and broken; soil good to medium. Section 9, about one-half mixed bush, containing rimu, rata, kohekohe, and some puriri; balance mostly high tea-tree; rich soil, with some good alluvial flats. The land in this block lies from eighteen to twenty-five miles north-east of Ohinewai Railway-station. There is a cart-road formed to the Kaihere Settlement, within three miles of the close end of the block.

THIRD SCHEDULE.
Second-class Scrub Land.

Each section contains about 25 acres mixed bush, with rata, rimu, tawa, and some puriri; about 15 acres raupo swamp, balance fern and tea-tree; soil fair to medium. Situated about twenty-five miles north-east of Ohinewai Railway-station.

Rural Lands in Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the eighth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”
