paper hereunto annexed and marked with the letter “ A,”
have been duly taken.
2. That upon a poll of the said ratepayers taken on the
said proposal on the 17th day of December, 1903, the said
proposal was duly carried within the meaning of “ The
Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously
believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the pro-
visions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand
intituled “ The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

Borough of Waimate, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “ The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF WAIMATE.

Notice of result of poll to raise a special loan under “ The
Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” on the following pro-
posal :—

  1. The undertaking proposed to be engaged in, and for
    which such loan is required, is the providing of a water-
    supply for the Borough of Waimate by all such means as
    may be found necessary for such purpose, including the
    construction of works and acquiring lands and rights to
    water, and the doing of all other acts, matters, and things
    incidental to the establishment of such water-supply as
    aforesaid.
  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose is
    £11,500.
  3. To provide security for repayment of such loan it is
    proposed that a special annually recurring rate of 2⁷⁄₁₀d. in
    the pound during the currency of the loan be made and
    levied upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property
    within the Borough of Waimate, to be appropriated and
    pledged as such security as aforesaid, and that if necessary
    the proposed waterworks and all plant and property thereof
    be also charged with repayment of the loan, and the repay-
    ment of the loan is to be provided for by payment of £4 per
    centum per annum on the amount thereof for forty-one
    years by way of interest on and also extinguishing the loan
    at the end of that period.
  4. It is proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising
    the loan and the interest for the first year.

Public notice is hereby given that at the poll of rate-
payers of the Borough of Waimate taken on the 18th day of
December, 1903, upon the above proposal the votes recorded
were as follows :—
For the proposal, 155; against the proposal, 113; in-
formal, 1.
And I hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.

HOBSON COUNTY COUNCIL.

Result of Poll.

THE following is the result of a poll taken in the Okahu
Riding of Hobson County on Saturday, the 19th day of
December, 1903, on the proposal of the Hobson County
Council to borrow £5,500 under “ The Local Bodies’ Loans
Act, 1901,” for roadworks in the Okahu Riding, and to levy
a special rate within the Okahu Special-rating District as
security for such loan :—
Number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal,
66; number of valid votes recorded against the proposal, 16.

The total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the
proposal being more than three-fifths of the total number of
valid votes recorded at the poll, I therefore declare the pro-
posal to be carried.

EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE following is the result of the poll of ratepayers of the
Parkville Road Improvement District taken on Tuesday,
the 15th of December, 1903, for the purpose of forming and
metalling footpaths in Parkville :—
Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 11; number
of votes recorded against the proposal, 8; informal vote, 1.
As the number of votes recorded in favour of the pro-
posal is less than three-fifths of the total number of valid
votes recorded, I therefore declare the proposal lost.

RHIO STRAIT.—Pulo Sau Lt., in 1° 3′ N., 104° 11′ E., is to
be altered from f. white to an occ. white lt.—vis. 15 secs.,
ecl. 5 secs.—but in other respects it will remain unchanged.
Little Karas Lt., in 0° 44½′ N., 104° 22½′ E., has been altered
from f. white to a fl. white lt. every 20 secs.—fl. 5 secs.,
ecl. 15 secs.—but no other change made. Nov.

Java.

PROBOLINGO LT.—On 25th Aug., 1903, this lt. (7° 43′ S.,
113° 13′ E.) was to be altered from f. white to a group-occ.
white lt. every 40 secs.—lt. 20 secs., ecl. 4 secs.; lt. 4 secs.,
ecl. 4 secs.; lt. 4 secs., ecl. 4 secs. Nov.

MADURA STRAIT.—SAPUDI ISL. LT.—This lt. (7° 5′ S.,
114° 16′ E.) has been altered from f. white to a fl. white lt.
every 15 secs.—fl. 3 secs., ecl. 12 secs. Nov.

Borneo.

NATUNA ISLS.—A coral bank, carrying 7 fms., lies in approx.
4° 17½′ N., 107° 58′ E., with the N. pt. of Cape Dato, Great
Natuna Isl., S. 85° E. 13½ miles, and the W. extr. of Seluan
Isl. S. 52° W. Also a rk., about 5 cables in diam., with a
least depth of 4 ft., and depths of 10 fms. around, lies in
approx. 3° 56½′ N., 108° 24½′ E., with Cape Senubing N. 35° W.
about 4 miles, and Kamodi Isl. S. 5° W. Also Mieulle Reef,
in approx. 4° 4′ N., 108° 26′ E., uncovers at l.w. Nov.

CHINA SEA, ETC.

LEITE.—KANIGAO ISL.—A shoal, with a least depth of
4½ fms., exists with the left extr. of Kanigao Isl. (10° 14′ N.,
124° 44½′ E.) N. 1° W. 2 miles. Also, as a result of the
exam. by the U.S. survey steamer “ Pathfinder,” the shoal
reported to exist in approx. 10° 10½′ N., 124° 43′ E., off the
S.W. coast of Leite Isl., on which the s.s. “ Nuestra Señora
del Carmen ” is said to have struck in 1891, has been proved
not to exist, the least depth obtained in the neighbourhood
being 9½ fms. It has been expunged from the Admiralty
charts, as the inhabitants of the village near Green Hill
state that the “ Carmen ” struck on the rk. off the S.W. pt.
of Leite. Nov.

SCOTT ISL.—A small rocky isl., 300 ft. high, named Scott
Isl., with a pillar rk. off S. end of it, has been discovered
in 67° 24½′ S., 179° 54½′ W. Sept.
