Taihape Township is situated on the North Island Main Trunk Railway and Road, about forty-four miles and a half from Marton. The country around the township is in an advanced state of settlement. Communication with the Lower Rangitikei is maintained by daily coach services from Mangaweka, which is about sixteen miles distant, and which is the present terminus of the railway traffic. It is expected that the railway will shortly be completed as far as Taihape, which will remain the terminus for some time. Taihape is a rising township, having a public school, police-station, stores, accommodation-houses, hotels, post and telegraph office, &c. The sections offered are all practically level, and the soil is good throughout. The timber, where standing on sections in Blocks XIX. and XX., is of a mixed character, comprising kahikatea, matai, miro, maire, and pokaka, with usual undergrowth. The elevation above sea-level is about 1,400 ft.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and three.
