EXHIBITION OF LIGHT ON KAHURANGI POINT, WEST COAST,
SOUTH ISLAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 5th November, 1903.
WITH reference to preliminary Notice No. 71 of 1903,
issued by this Department on the 28th September
last, it is hereby notified that on and after the 30th Novem-
ber, 1903, a light will be exhibited from sunset to sunrise
from the lighthouse which has been erected on Kahurangi
Point, West Coast, South Island, in lat. 40° 46′ 3″ S. and
long. 172° 13′ 7″ E., as measured from the Admiralty chart.
The light, which is a dioptric fixed white light of the
second order, is about 110 ft. above the level of the sea at
high water, and is visible to seaward over an arc of
212 degrees of the horizon for a distance of about 16½ miles
from the deck of a vessel 15 ft. above the sea; with a red
sector of 20 degrees, so adjusted as to show over the Stewart
Breaker, distant about 4½ miles N., 28° W. (magnetic) from
the lighthouse site.
The tower, which is of cast iron, and painted white, is
59 ft. in height from the bottom of the base to the top of the
lantern.

Authorising the Laying-off of the Main Streets in the Town of
Chislehurst, Taranaki Land District, of a Width of 66 ft.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon
me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act,
1902,” I, Thomas Young Duncan, Minister of Lands, do
hereby authorise the laying-off of the main streets in the
Town of Chislehurst, Taranaki Land District, of a width
of 66 ft., instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of
“The Land Act, 1892.”

Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.
Mines Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th November, 1901.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £2,000 will be
paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904,
shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold
from black sands in New Zealand.
The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following
conditions:—
- The invention shall, in its main features, differ from
all machinery and appliances at present in use for the
saving of gold, whether coarse or fine. - It shall be readily transportable from place to place,
and shall be capable of utilising local water for all its re-
quirements. - The invention must be capable of treating not less than
30 cubic yards an hour of black sand or any coarser material
up to a diameter of 4 in.; and it must be capable of treating
such material profitably where there is not more than a
value, in gold, of 3d. per cubic yard; not less than 80 per
cent. of the gold contained in the material to be recovered
by the machine. - No bonus to be paid until the invention has been con-
tinuously worked for not less than six months, and it shall,
during that period, have treated not less than 100,000 cubic
yards of material, working three shifts a day. - The bonus will be paid on the certificate of an officer
that not less than twenty persons other than the applicant
for the bonus are successfully working the invention. - Any person who receives the bonus shall not be allowed
to take out patent rights in New Zealand for his invention.

JAMES WILLIAM WALLACE SEYMOUR, of Te Kuiti, and
ERUETI ARANI, of Moawhango,
to be members of the Maniapoto-Tuwharetoa District Maori
Land Council (the former vice William Wilson McCardle,
resigned; the latter on reappointment, his seat having be-
come vacant through unavoidable absence without leave
from three consecutive meetings of the Council).
GEORGE EDWARD DARTON and OTENE PITAU, both of
Gisborne,
to be members of the Tai-rawhiti District Maori Land Coun-
cil, vice respectively John Townley, resigned, and Heta te
Kani, deceased.

give notice that I have taken Te Hera Winiata, daughter of
Moahi Winiata and Te Aira Winiata, of Awahuri, Te Ata
Ruru, daughter of Te Ruru and Te Reo, of Awahuri, and
Heni Hone, daughter of Hone te Hika and Te Reo, of
Awahuri, to be my adopted children according to Maori
custom; and I request that such adoption be registered
under the provisions of section 50 of “The Native Land
Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”
