Notice published pursuant to the Provisions of Section 15 of
“The Public Trust Office Consolidation Act, 1894.”

NOTICE is hereby given that, no person having taken
out administration, the Public Trustee has filed in
the office of the Supreme Court at Wellington an election
to administer the several intestate estates of the persons
deceased whose names, residences, and occupations, so far
as known, are hereunder respectively set forth, their gross
properties being estimated not to exceed £250 in each case.
Margaret Reilly, or O’Reilly, late of Wellington, in the
Provincial District of Wellington, widow. Filed on the
29th day of January, 1903.
Thomas Whittington Watts, late of Tauranga, in the
Provincial District of Auckland, billiard-marker. Filed on
the 29th day of January, 1903.
John Taylor Gordon, late of Wellington, in the Provincial
District of Wellington, gentleman. Filed on the 29th day

Edwin Davies, late of Christchurch, in the Provincial

CHINESE.—Chinese are included in the population given above. The number in New Zealand on 31st December, 1902, was estimated to be 2,792, of whom 31 were females.
REMARKS.—Excluding Maoris, the population of the colony increased by 20,268, or at the rate of 2·57 per cent., during the year. To this increase, excess of births over deaths contributed 12,276, and excess of arrivals over departures 7,992.
The birth-rate for the colony in 1902 was 25·88 per 1,000 of mean population, and the death-rate 10·51, as against 26·34 and 9·81 respectively in 1901.
The deaths in 1902 (8,379) exceeded the number registered in 1901 (7,634) by 745, and cause an increase in the rate per 1,000 from 9·81 to 10·51.
The number of marriages (excluding those contracted between Maoris) solemnised in 1902 is estimated at 6,388, giving a rate of 8·01* per 1,000 of the mean population, against 6,095 and 7·83, the actual number and rate in 1901.
