Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Arch Hill Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

ARCH HILL ROAD BOARD.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.—Notice under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

THE following is the result of the poll taken on the 13th day of December, 1902, on the proposal to raise a loan of £1,600, to be allocated as under—viz., £1,220 to re-form Great North Road from city boundary to Arch Hill Hotel, £380 to pay off overdraft on drainage:—

Number of valid votes recorded, 62 : Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 56 ; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 6.

As the number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of votes recorded at the poll, I declare the proposal carried.

THE following corrections to the New Zealand Nautical Almanac for 1903, issued by this Department, are published for general information:—

Page 116, second diagram from top, representing “Put to sea,” should show the two balls on yard on one side only of mast.

Page 122, third line below “Wellington to Westport,” distance from Stephens Island to Farewell Spit Lighthouse (S. 3 miles), should read “46·5 miles (total distance, Wellington to Westport, 227·5 miles).”

Page 123, fifth line below “Wellington to New Plymouth,” should read, “Opunake (N. 54° E. 7 miles).”

Page 123, sixth line below “Wellington to New Plymouth,” should read, “Cape Egmont (N. 75° E. 2 miles).”

Page 124, second line below “Lyttelton to Timaru,” should read, “Akaroa light (N. 65° W. 3⅔ miles).”

Page 124, third line below “Lyttelton to Port Chalmers,” should read, “Steep Head (S. 28° W. 3 miles).”

Page 125, Oamaru light, should read “Flashing—White, flash every 14 seconds.”

Gisborne Roadstead: Plan facing page 132, rock close to line of leading-beacon is incorrectly printed “21 ft.”: it should be “31 ft.” as per notice, page 217.

NOTICE is hereby given that, from and after 15th March, 1903, the light at Mangalore will be altered from white fixed to white occulting, showing four occultations every minute.

ALTERATION IN DAY AND NIGHT SIGNALS, NEW PLYMOUTH.

THE New Plymouth Harbour Board have notified that, on and after Monday, the 16th February, 1903, the following signals will be shown from the staff on the end of the wharf at New Plymouth, in lieu of those at present exhibited, namely,—

B

By Day.

From Masthead.

  1. B (burgee) .. .. Berth east side, bow out.
  2. D (pennant) .. .. Wait next tide.
  3. F (pennant) .. .. Come to anchor.

From Yardarm.

  1. C (pennant) over B (burgee) Straight in west side.
  2. F (pennant) over W (square flag) .. .. Straight in east side.

By Night.

  1. Two red lights in line of wharf .. .. Berth east side.
  2. Two green lights in line of wharf .. .. Berth west side.
  3. White light over red .. Wait for daylight.
  4. Red light over green .. Go on; do not wait.

Notice as to Days for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the provisions of “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days upon which all shops in the said respective districts shall be closed.

Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”

NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference of Delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Borough of Ashburton and the Town Districts of Hampstead and Tinwald (being all the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Thursday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act.
