Notice to Mariners No. 72 of 1903.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 28th September, 1903.
THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, Victoria, is published for general information.
WM. HALL-JONES.
VICTORIA.—DREDGING IN SOUTH CHANNEL, PORT PHILLIP.
REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 74, dated 23rd July,
1903, mariners and others are hereby warned that under
certain conditions of tide the dredger “John Nimmo” and
the anchor punt swing at their moorings by night athwart
the South Channel, and thus offer considerable obstruction
therein in the vicinity of the line of leading-lights off Port-
sea, therefore extreme care must be taken in navigating
vessels past the dredger.
Obstructions connected with the dredging operations may
be cleared by passing to southward of the red-lighted gas
buoy off Portsea, and otherwise following the course pre-
scribed for vessels drawing over 24ft. (vide Notice to
Mariners No. 71, dated 20th July, 1903), instead of passing
close to the dredger.
C. W. MACLEAN,
Melbourne, 2nd August, 1903. Port Officer.
