thousand nine hundred and one, and the waters thereof; and
both hereby declare that these regulations shall, as from the
date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette,
supersede all regulations for the said district at variance
therewith.
REGULATIONS.
-
Licenses to fish for trout and perch in all waters within
the Wairoa Acclimatisation District may be issued under
the hand of the secretary of the Wairoa Acclimatisation
Society (hereinafter termed βthe said societyβ), or by any
one authorised by the said secretary in that behalf, and
such licenses shall entitle the person named therein to fish
in every acclimatisation district from the first day of Octo-
ber in any one year to the fifteenth day of April in the year
following, subject to the said Acts, and any special regula-
tions made thereunder in force in any such district affecting
any particular stream, river, or water therein: Provided
that the secretary may refuse to issue a license to any
person who within the previous two years has been con-
victed of any breach of the provisions of any Act relating to
fishing for trout or perch, or of any regulation made there-
under. -
Licenses available in any acclimatisation district
throughout New Zealand may be issued at the following
rates:-
Licenses for men: Twenty shillings for the whole
season; five shillings for one month; and two shil-
lings and sixpence for one week.
Licenses for women, and for boys attending school or
under the age of sixteen years: Ten shillings for
the whole season; three shillings for one month; or
one shilling and sixpence for one week.

Any holder of a license may fish with one rod and line
for trout and perch, and may use a landing-net or gaff to
secure any trout or perch caught with such rod and line, in
the above-named waters. -
No license shall authorise any person other than the
person named therein to fish, and that with natural or arti-
ficial fly, insect, or fish only. -
No person shall have in his possession any of the Sal-
monidae or trout between the eighteenth day of April and
the thirtieth day of September in any year, which period is
hereby appointed a close season for all such fish: Provided
always that this regulation shall not apply to fish caught by
the officers of the said society for purposes of acclimatisa-
tion. -
No person shall put, throw, or place, or allow to be put,
thrown, or placed, into any river or stream, or at the mouth
or entrance of any such river or stream, any dynamite or
other explosive substance, or any sawdust or sawmill refuse,
or anything of any kind or description whatever poisonous,
deleterious, or noxious to fish. -
No person shall take, fish for, catch, or kill in any
manner whatever, or have in his possession, any salmon,
salmon-parr, or smolts, or the ova, young. or fry of any
salmon in any stage whatever; and any of the above-named
taken by accident or otherwise shall immediately be re-
turned alive into the water from which the same is taken. -
No person shall fish for trout or perch without a
license, and every person fishing shall, on the demand of any
Ranger, constable, member of the said society, or person
producing a license, produce and show to such Ranger,
member, constable, or person, his license and the contents of
his creel or bag, and the bait used by him for taking, catch-
ing, or killing such trout or perch. -
Every trout not exceeding nine inches in length from
nose to tip of tail taken or caught by any person shall
immediately be returned alive into the water from which
the same is taken. -
No person shall take, catch, or kill any perch under
eight inches in length, nor shall perch be taken, caught, or
killed at all, or had in possession of any person, between the
eighteenth day of April and the thirtieth day of September
in any year. -
No cross-line fishing, stroke-hauling, or any other un-
sportsmanlike device shall be used for the purpose of taking,
catching, or killing trout or perch; nor shall any of the
above-mentioned baits be used with any medicated or
chemical preparation whatever. -
Except as aforesaid, no person shall fish with or use
any net or other engine, instrument, or device for taking
salmon, or trout, or perch in any river or stream within the
district aforesaid, or at the mouth or entrance of any such
river or stream. -
For the purposes of these regulations the mouth of
every such river or stream shall be deemed to include every
outlet of the same and the sea-shore between such outlets,
and shall extend over a radius of one-quarter of a mile from
the point or line where the waters of such river or stream
meet those of the sea or of any harbour at low water. -
No person shall buy, sell, or expose or offer for sale, or
shall fish for the purpose of obtaining for sale, any salmon,
trout, or perch, or any part thereof, -
The penalty for the breach of any of these regulations
shall not be less than forty shillings or more than fifty
pounds. -
If any person shall be convicted of any offence against
these regulations, the license (if any) held by the offender
shall thereupon become void.

Determination of a Lease compulsorily under "The Native
Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895."
RANFURLY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth
day of September, 1903.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto,
which has been acquired by the Crown from Natives,
is subject to a valid and duly registered lease held as lessee
by the Assets Realisation Board, the registered number of
the said lease being 16501:
And whereas the said land is required for settlement, and,
upon the requisition of the Minister of Lands, the Board of
Land Purchase Commissioners has duly reported thereon:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the power in this
behalf conferred upon him by section seventy of "The
Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895," and acting on
the recommendation of the said Board, and by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby absolutely determine the said lease as
to the whole of the land.
SCHEDULE.
MANGA-A-TORO No. 1& No. 1.
ALL that parcel of land situate in the Land District of
Hawke's Bay, containing by admeasurement 5,141 acres,
more or less, being the land known as the Manga-a-toro 1A
No. 1 Block: bounded towards the north by Sections 1A
No. 2 and 1A No. 3 of the Manga-a-toro Block and the
Pukokomuka Block, and Sections 5, 15, and 8 of Block V.,
Manga-a-toro Survey District; towards the east by Sec-
tions 11 and 14 of Block V. aforesaid and Ngaeparuru
No. 10 Block; towards the south by the Manga-a-toro
No. 2A Block and Sections 1, 5, and 6 of Block IX., and
Sections 8, 1, and 2, Block XII., Tahomaite Survey District;
and towards the west by Native land: as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19285,
deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and
Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District,
and thereon edged with red.

Waitati.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth
day of September, 1903.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section four of "The Inebriates Institu-
tions Act, 1898," it is provided that the Governor in
Council may from time to time appoint for every institu-
tion for inebriates a Superintendent and such other officers
as he thinks necessary:
And whereas it is deemed expedient that the appointment
hereinafter mentioned should be made:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers conferred
upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby appoint
DAVID GAULT, M.D., F.R.C.S., Edin.,
To be Superintendent of the Institution for Inebriates at
Waitati, in the Provincial District of Otago, in the place of
Frederick Truby King, resigned.
