THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Pt. Lt.-h. S. 6° E. 11 cables, and the wrn. extr. of N. Pt. S. 60° W. (b.) A red conical buoy moored on the nrn. edge of Beagle Rks. to the srd. of the entr. to Swan River, with the lt.-h. on the end of the S. breakwater N. 55° E. 2⅛ cables, and the extr. of the N. breakwater N. 27° W. Also, on the same date, the following alterations are to be made in the pilot service: The Pilot Station on Bathurst Pt. is to be removed to the Tel. and Sig. Station near Arthur’s Head. The Pilot Sig. Station at Bathurst Pt. Lt.-h., and the station at Thompson’s Bay, and also the Pilot Look-out Station at the main lt.-h. on Rottnest Isl., have been disc. Vessels therefore requiring a pilot should make the sig. for one to the sig. station at the main lt.-h. on Rottnest Isl., not to Bathurst Pt., as stated in the above-mentioned notice, and proceed to the pilot boarding-ground, which is about 5 miles to the erd. of Bathurst Pt., and there await the pilot sent from Fremantle. In proceeding to the pilots’ boarding-ground vessels should not attempt to use the S. passage between Middle Bank and Champion Rk. June.

STUART CHAN.—A small rk. carrying 19 ft. at L.W., with 21 fms. close nrd., lies in Evening Cove, Oyster Harb., with the centre of Coffin Isl. N. 30° E. 2½ cables. July.

A F. white lt., unwatched, elev. 29 ft. above H.W., R. 10 miles, is exh. from a small white square lt.-h., in 48° 59½′ N., 123° 45′ W., on the centre of Coffin Isl., nrn. part of entr. to Oyster Harb. July.

A F. white lt., unwatched, elev. 19 ft. above H.W., R. 9 miles, is exh. from a white square wooden tower on the bow of the wrk. s.s. “Miami,” in approx. 49° 2¾′ N., 123° 42¼′ W., 1⅞ cables N. 49° W. from the wrn. extr. of White Rk. There is a rk., carrying 4 ft. at L.W., immediately to the srd. of the wrk., where 2 fms. is shown on the chart. July.

California.

SAN FRANCISCO HARB.—Works are now in progress for the removal of Blossom Rk., in approx. 37° 49′ N., 122° 24′ W. Mariners are cautioned to give the rk. a berth of at least 1½ cables on all sides to avoid fouling the buoys and ropes near it whilst it is being removed. July.

REPORTED SHOAL IN TRINITY PASSAGE.

Mr. S. B. Andreasen, master of the ketch “Onyx,” reports the existence in the Trinity Passage of a sunken reef, situated in lat. 16° 26′ S. and long. 146° 5′ E. (approximately). The reef is a few hundred yards in extent, with a depth of 2 fathoms over it at low water.

Vessels using this passage are therefore cautioned to keep a good look-out.

TIMARU HARBOUR LIGHT, ON EASTERN EXTENSION OF BREAKWATER, CARRIED AWAY.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 46, issued by this Department on the 18th July, 1901, notice is hereby given that the bright light shown at the seaward end of the staging of the Eastern Extension Mole, Timaru, has been carried away.

Due notice will be given of the date on which the light will be again exhibited.
