Notification of Settlement of Claims for Compensation under
"The Mining Act, 1898."

Mines Department,
Wellington, 4th August, 1903.

IN pursuance of the provisions of the 240th section of
"The Mining Act, 1898," it is hereby notified that the
claims for compensation enumerated in the Schedule hereto,
in respect to a Proclamation issued under the hand of His
Excellency the Governor and the Public Seal of the Colony
on the 25th day of July, 1901, declaring the Inangahua
River, with its tributaries, in the Land District of
Nelson, to be watercourses into which tailings, &c., may be
discharged, have been settled, and all further claims and
remedies in respect of the said Proclamation are barred,
as provided by the said Act.

Exportation of Arms to China.

Department of Trade and Customs,
Wellington, 3rd August, 1903.

REFERRING to the Proclamation prohibiting the ex-
portation of arms, ammunition, &c., to China, pub-
lished in the New Zealand Gazette of the 17th January, 1901,
No. 6, page 165, it is hereby notified for public information
that His Excellency the Governor has received a cablegram
from the Secretary of State for the Colonies repealing the
said Proclamation as from the 7th day of August now next
ensuing.

Authorising the Laying-off of Konene Street, Town of Utuhina North, of a Width of 66 ft.

Wellington, 30th July, 1903.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon
me by section 2 of "The Towns Main Streets Act,
1902," I, Thomas Young Duncan, Minister of Lands, do
hereby authorise the laying-off of Konene Street, in the
Town of Utuhina North, Auckland Land District, of a
width of 66 ft., instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17
of "The Land Act, 1892."

Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.

Mines Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th November, 1901.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of Β£2,000 will be
paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904,
shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold
from black sands in New Zealand.

The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following
conditions:β€”

  1. The invention shall, in its main features, differ from
    all machinery and appliances at present in use for the
    saving of gold, whether coarse or fine.
