AFRICA.
South Coast.
TABLE BAY.—A bell buoy is moored in 13 fms. in approx. 33° 50′ S., 18° 22½′ E., ½ mile N.W. by W. ½ W. from Whale Rk., with Robben Isl. Lt.-h. N. 37° E. 1¼ miles. June.
EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.
Malacca Strait, &c.
RHIO STRAIT.—The following lts. in the strait are to be altered: (a.) Pulo Sau Lt., in 1° 3′ N., 104° 11′ E., from F. white to an occ. white lt., vis. 15 secs., ecl. 5 secs., but in other respects it will remain unchanged. (b.) Little Karas Lt., in 0° 44½′ N., 104° 22½′ E., from F. white to a fl. white lt. every 20 secs., fl. 5 secs., ecl. 15 secs., but no other change will be made. June.
Billiton.
GASPAR STRAIT.—Ayer Lanchu Lt., in 2° 53′ S., 107° 21′ E., on Pulo Mendanao, has been altered from F. to an occ. white lt., vis. 5 secs., ecl. 5 secs.; in other respects it remains as before. June.
CHINA SEA, ETC.
China.
RULES FOR STEAM PILOT BOATS IN CHINESE WATERS.—From 15th April, 1903, steam pilot boats exclusively employed for pilots whose licenses have been issued by the Imperial Maritime Customs in the name of and on behalf of the Chinese Government, when engaged on their stations on pilotage duty and in Chinese waters and not at anchor, shall, in addition to the lts. required for all pilot boats, carry a red lt., vis. around the hor., R. at least 2 miles, at a dist. of 8 ft. below their white masthead lt., and also the usual side lts. carried by vessels when under way. When on their stations on pilotage duty and in Chinese waters and at anchor they shall carry, in addition to the lt. required for all pilot boats, the red lt. above mentioned, but not the side lts. When not engaged on their stations on pilotage duty they shall carry the same lts. as other vessels. June.
HONGKONG.—E. LAMMA CHAN.—A rk. named Ngauchau am pi, carrying 2½ fms., lies in approx. 22° 13′ N., 114° 11′ E., in E. Lamma Chan., with Ma Kong summit Δ S. 73° E. 2½ cables, and the wrn. extr. of Gantchau Isl. N. 2° E. June.
YANG TSE KIANG.—On 1st April, 1903, Tungsha Lt.-v. (31° 8′ N., 122° 0′ E.), exh. a group-fl. white lt., was to be temp. replaced by a lt.-v. with one mast and yard, exh. from each yard-arm a F. red lt. over a F. white lt., elev. 55 ft. and 35 ft. respectively, R. red lt. 5 and white lt. 10 miles, also a riding lt. on the forestay, and a black ball at the masthead. The lts. on one yard-arm may, in some positions of the lt.-v., be obsc. by the mast. When out of position, the above lts. will not be exh., but a small F. red lt. will be shown from each end of the lt.-v.; and a red flag will be hoisted above the ball until it is struck. A fog gong, sounded at intervals of one min., is est. on the lt.-v. June.
NEW ZEALAND.

PACIFIC OCEAN.
Hawaiian (Sandwich) Islands.
OAHU.—HONOLULU HARB.—The uniform system of buoyage of the coasts of the United States has been extended to the Sandwich Isl.s, and the buoyage of Honolulu Harb. has been altered as follows:—Ern. side of the chan.: No. 5 red conical buoy is now No. 2, No. 3 red conical buoy No. 6, and No. 2 red conical buoy No. 8. Wrn. side of the chan.: No. 6 black pile buoy is now No. 3, No. 7 black pile buoy is moored 2½ cables S. 19° W. from the harb. lt. (F. red) in 21° 18′ N., 157° 52′ W., No. 4 black pile buoy is now No. 9, No. 3 black pile buoy No. 11, No. 2 black pile buoy No. 13, No. 1 black pile buoy No. 15, and No. 17 black pile buoy is moored ⅓ cable S. 42° E. from the harb. lt. The note on the chart has also been amended. The United States uniform system is—Approaching a chan. from seaward all buoys on the starb. side of the chan. are red and have even numbers, on the port side of the chan. all buoys are black and have odd numbers. Buoys with red and black hor. stripes mark obstructions with chans. on each side of them. Buoys with black and white vert. stripes are fairway buoys, and should be passed closely to avoid danger. June.
NORTH AMERICA.
West Coast.
SAN FRANCISCO BAR.—The following alterations have been made in the buoyage of the harb. bar:—Bonita Chan.: A red conical buoy, named N.W. Edge Four Fm. Bank, No. 0, is est. in 8¼ fms. on the n.-wrn. edge of Four Fm. Bank, with Bonita Pt. Lt.-h. (37° 48¾′ N., 122° 31½′ W.) N. 82° E. 3⁷⁄₁₀ miles, and Mount Tamalpais ern. peak N. 5° W. Main Ship Chan.: The black can buoy No. 1 has been moved one mile S. 4° E., and is now moored with Bonita Pt. Lt.-h. N. 56° E. 5⁷⁄₁₀ miles, and Ballenas Pt. N. 49° W. S. Chan.: (a.) A red conical buoy, named Ocean Side No. 2, is est. in 6½ fms. with Ocean Side house N. 83° E. 6 cables, and Bonita Pt. Lt.-h. N. 23° W. (b.) A red conical buoy, named Golden Gate Park No. 4, is est. in 6¾ fms. with Bonita Pt. Lt.-h. N. 21° W. 3 miles, and Lone Mountain cross N. 59° E. Vessels must not pass inshore of the above two buoys. June.

OTAGO HARBOUR.—SUBSTITUTION OF PILE BEACONS FOR BUOYS.

NOTICE is hereby given that pile beacons, painted red, have been substituted for the upper, middle, and lower red buoys marking the channel between the lightship and Harrington Point, Otago Harbour, from which, on and after Saturday, the 1st August, 1903, three fixed white lights will be exhibited.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty chart No. 2411; “New Zealand Pilot,” 7th edition, Chapter viii., page 294.

Notifying Land in the Marlborough Land District subject to “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900.”

PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” I hereby notify that the undermentioned Crown land (being the land known as the Rainford Settlement), which has been acquired under the said Act, is subject to the said Act.
SCHEDULE.
RAINFORD SETTLEMENT.
ALL that piece or parcel of land situated in the Land District of Marlborough, containing by admeasurement 245 acres 3 roods and 11 perches, being sections numbered 162, 164, 165, 166, and part 163, Kaikoura Suburban, Block VIII., Mount Fyffe Survey District, and bounded as follows: On the north by Sections 175, 176, 177, part 163 and 179; on the east by Section 161; on the south by a public road; and on the west by Section 167: excluding therefrom a public road, 1 chain wide, which intersects the said parcel of land: as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19294, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged with red.
