BOROUGH OF STRATFORD.

RESULT of a poll taken on the 14th day of January, 1903, at the Borough Council Chambers, Broadway, Stratford, on a proposal to borrow the sum of £5,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” at £3 10s. per centum per annum for forty-one years, for the purpose of establishing an abattoir for the Borough of Stratford and of procuring a site for same:—

Number of votes given for the proposal, 22; number of votes given against the proposal, 37; number of informal votes, 2.

A majority of votes having been given against the above proposal, I hereby declare it to be rejected.

Notice to Mariners No. 2 of 1903.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 54 of 1902, issued by this Department on the 28th July, 1902, the following notice, received from the Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for general information.

CAPE BRUNY LIGHT, TASMANIA.

WITH reference to the preliminary notice of the 11th July, 1902, it is hereby notified that on and after Wednesday, 1st April, 1903, a light will be exhibited from the old tower which is situated on the south-western end of Bruny Island, 43-29 south and 147-8 east.

It is a second-order dioptric flashing white light, with eclipses—period of light, three seconds; period of darkness, nineteen and a half seconds. The apparatus shows eight white flashes and eight eclipses in a complete revolution of three minutes.

The tower is painted white. Height of focal plane above sea-level, 346 ft.; and range of visibility, twenty-two miles in clear weather.

WITH reference to this office Notice to Mariners No. 44 of 1902, notice is hereby given that, from and after 1st January, 1903, the light of Masulipatam will be altered from white fixed to white occulting, showing four occultations every minute.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Presidency Port Officer, Madras, are published for general information.

INDIA.—EAST COAST.—NEGAPATAM.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the 1st March, 1903, the light at Negapatam will be extinguished, and a temporary light will be exhibited from the balcony of the lighthouse-tower, showing a bright fixed light, visible from all directions seaward at a distance of ten miles, during the alteration and improvement of the present light, which will take about one month; after which the light will be re-exhibited as an occulting white light showing four occultations every minute, visible from all directions seaward at a distance of fourteen miles.

Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the provisions of “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days upon which all shops in the said respective districts shall be closed.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference of Delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Boroughs of the City of Dunedin, Caversham, South Dunedin, St. Kilda, Mornington, Roslyn, Maori Hill, North-east Valley, West Harbour, and Port Chalmers (being all the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Wednesday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act.
