APPLICATION FOR LICENSE FOR A WATER-RACE.
To the Warden of the Otago Mining District, at Dunedin.
PURSUANT to “The Mining Act, 1898,” the undersigned, the Corporation of the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Dunedin, hereby applies for a license for a water-race, as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.
Date and number of miner’s right: 2nd March, 1903; No. 28036.

SCHEDULE.
Locality of the race, and of its starting and terminal points: The race commences on the Lees Stream, in Section 2, Block X., Mount Hyde District, at a dam-site applied for by applicant, 40 chains above its junction with Fortification Creek, and traverses the right bank of the Lees Stream for a distance of 20 chains to a point in Section 4, Block X., Mount Hyde District, by a pipe-line; thence by a tunnel for a distance of 120 chains underground, through Section 4, Block X., and Section 3, Block XI., Mount Hyde District, and Section 2, Block XVI., Maungatua District, to a point on Missing Link Creek; thence by a pipe-line through said Section 2, Block XVI., Maungatua District, and under public road intersecting said Section 2, a distance of 110 chains, to a road-line between said Section 2 and Section 31 (bush reserve), Block VII., Maungatua District, and under said road; thence through said Section 31 (bush reserve), terminating at a point on the bank of the Taieri River 37 chains below its junction with the Lees Stream.
Length and intended course of race: About four miles, more or less, in a south-easterly direction from Lees Stream to Taieri River, as before described.
Points of intake: On the Lees Stream, 40 chains above its junction with Fortification Creek.
Estimated time and cost of construction: Twenty-four months; £32,000.
Mean depth and breadth: Tunnel, 6 ft. high by 4 ft. wide; pipe-line, 30 in. pipes.
Number of heads to be diverted: Forty.
Purpose for which water is to be used: Generating electricity for transmission of power and electric lighting.
